How did Kersey and Charlie meet during the Korean War?

If Kersey was a conscientious objector?

Was he just hanging out in war-torn Korea and happened to meet Charlie on his leave? Kersey didn't care for forced military service but but loved death and destruction and wanted to be where all the action was? Like an FU to the government? (You can't make me go to war! I'll go to the war on my own!)

Maybe they met back in the USA after Charlie's tour was over? That would almost be like me saying I met my good friend Jim Dangle during the Iraq war, even though we really met in a McDonald's bathroom in Nevada, but it did technically happen sometime during the 8 years of the Iraq war.

Maybe they were in the same platoon together, and they were overrun by Chinese commies and they were the only survivors after killing 5,000 of them in a matter of days.

Maybe it was after he killed so many Chinese troops that Kersey morphed into a conscious objector

Maybe they met in Bennett's My shop! My shop!

reply

So that's why Bennett was so emotional over that dumpy shop

Him and Kersey did their secret love sessions there

reply

cause they needed a new plot angle and creating this long lost friend Charlie was a reason to get kersey back to new York.. Since we really didn't know much about pauls past cause we met him when he was in his 50's in the first movie..

Conversation between Charlie and Kersey:

Charlie - You like war, kid?
Kersey - No I'm a conscious objector!
Charlie - What the hell ya doing here?!?
Kersey - I hate creeps.
Charlie - Well we got plenty of creeps to kill here in Korea!
Kersey - Smells wonderful.
Charlie - We'll get along just fine.

Conversation between Kersey and his new Girlfriend... Miss Choung:

Miss Choung: I only know how to make kimchi.

Kersey: Kimchi is good, I like kimchi.

reply

Miss Choung: you wanna eat my kimchi, Mr kersey?

Kersey: smells wonderful

reply

I think in part one it says he went to war anyway

reply

Being a conscientious objector doesn't get you off the hook. Kersey was against the war, but believed in doing his duty. He started with North Koreans, and moved on to creeps.

reply

Don't they mention in the first or second one that Kersey was a Medic Officer in thr army? Him and Charlie probably met after Charlie took some shrapnel and Kersey had to mend him. And thus started a beautiful relationship that continued until Charlie failed to pay up on collection day. Poor Charlie.

reply

Yes, the first movie does mention that. Just because Kersey was a contentious objector doesn't mean he didn't have to serve at all. It might've been a Hacksaw Ridge situation where Kersey refused to fight but still patched soldiers up after they were wounded.

And yes to all those above, I'd give some of my organs for a Kersey/Charlie buddy movie set in Korea.

Charlie: "Paul, take care of the things in my footlocker will you? Until I get back. I'm gonna go kill some Koreans".

Kersey: "Alright, but it's going to cost you some of the stuffed cabbage and Ice Cream you've got in there. Smells wonderful".

Charlie: .....

Kersey: "This is America isn't it"?

Charlie: "You lefty moron".

reply

i assume kersey served anyway. he was joking.
