Best zombie movie of all time.

It is the pinnacle of the zombie sub-genre. Even though originally planned as a more epic, big budget gone with the wind of zombie movies, the lower budget and grittier look of the is what the essence of the zombie film is all about. It gives the movie a surreal quality yet still believable. A seriously dark, hopeless, and realistically gory horror movie.

The opening helicopter sequence alone beats 95% of anything else zombie related.

It's one of few movies I can watch 100 times and it's still *beep* awesome.

Totally agree. It's not a popular opinion but I feel this is George Romero's best Dead film. It explores deeper themes and dark subject matter but also manages to be a fun watch. I also think this is Savini at the height of his FX powers, next to The Prowler I feel it's his best work. The characters and the larger than life performances are another great element to this film, particularly Rhodes, Bub and Logan. I love Night and Dawn but I think this is more dynamic and enjoyable on repeat viewings.

Romero as a Director/Creator & Savini with his FX were at the top of their game for this one. Coming in hot off of the legendary “Creepshow”. You could tell everyone involved wanted this to work.
Great film.

The addition of Greg Nicotero pushed the SFX beyond what was seen before. They're some of the best zombies on film

Yes

I agree too. Just been rewatching it on PlutoTV. Such a great zombie flick. I probably seen it a good dozen of times at least and still not bored and never get tired of it. It’s so well made. And I know I’ll be watching it for many more years to come because it’s one of a kind, no other zombie films can come close to this gem.

Although it is a great film, I'd say it's my lest favourite in the original 'Dead Trilogy'. I have read the original script for Day, and man, that is the greatest zombie film never made!

It's criminal that it wasn't made, back when Romero was still at his prime. The financiers were fools for cutting the budget.

reply

It's my Third favorite Zombie film. Return of the Living Dead is my #1 and Night of the Living Dead is my #2.

reply

I think it says something about the quality of the trilogy as opinion is generally split across all three movies on which is the best.

reply

Great point.

I just rewatched NIGHT and I can’t help but hate the music in that movie. It’s so loud and ugly, that orchestra music when I absolutely love the music in DAY, it’s so much better in there.

reply

Do you still think it’s the best ever made?

reply

Yes I do, it’s a masterpiece to me. I think it also depends on when you saw it and what your memories associate with it. I saw the original NIGHT late after I’ve seen the remake first and it spoiled it for me I guess. The remake had better sp.effects.

reply

I do agree that it’s a great film and probably the best story of Romero’s trilogy. Somehow I just don’t find myself watching it often and there are others I enjoy more.

DAWN,DAY THEN NIGHT..IN THAT ORDER.

reply

This my favorite Zombie movie

reply

It's right up there.

This film makes my top three alongside Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Zombie (1979).

reply

I think Zombie (1979) tops my list.
