Different ending?

I saw this recently on one of the Encore channels. I remember the end of this movie being Miranda Richardson reading a letter to Rupert Evertt's mother. The images was of her finger going across the page of the letter while you could hear her voice. That is not how the film ended on cable. Am I just imagining that ending?

No, you're okay!

You saw the alternate ending, available as the one "extra" on the Region 1 DVD (and probably on other regions).

When the film first came out I remember that the ending was Ruth writing a letter to David's mother, not reading it. She was basically telling her about the affair and apologizing for her behavior.

Even so,she was the last woman to get the death penalty in England. How quaint.

What is the sound an imploding pimp makes?

I saw this film when it was released, and the ending with Ruth writing the letter sounds familiar. I wish there had been a bit more of the aftermath instead of just the events leading up to the killing.

What happens in the alternative ending, if you don't mind me asking?
