I always found the end a little odd and unclear

I wonder if there were missing scenes because the end never really made sense to me. So he lands in the water and then "drowns?" They take him to the hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead? And then the woman who worked at the lab broke into the hospital and fixed him? How did the woman know he was at the hospital?

And, I know it's a movie but you'd have to assume the FBI showed up at the parent's house like an hour later and took Daryl. They had to have known he was going there.

Well for the doctor , it is clear that she had a good idea that D.A.R.Y.L would have find a way to get back to his adopted family, she probably learned that he was "terminated" form the likes of the army or something and went there to find that he had in fact an accident...I guess... I have watched this film like 100 times and I never really put much thought on the ending , I was just happy he was back with his family...

Yeah, the ending is kind of unclear. The only thing I can think of is that she and Dr. Stewart might have put a tracking device in D.A.R.Y.L., after they took him from his foster family. A precaution incase he ever got out again. This would explain how she knew he was at the hospital at the end. That's how I try to rationalize it when watching it.

I don't think him drowning actually killed him. I think only the destruction of his brain could do that. the drowning caused the appearance of death and all that had to happen was for his brain to be reactivated so that he would fully function again. it's like she said when she came into the room: "I know you can hear me Daryl."

that's not what people really remember about the ending anyway. they remember the reunion scene and the feels that come with it.

Just rewatched it and Said that they could done a scene where he wakes up

Except the organs would be beyond use anymore. His brain might have been ok of the waterproofing held up but his organic organs would no longer be capable of functioning

Apparently they can.

I always thought it was part of the plan, and the Dr. Lamb was in on it. She had changed her mind, and helped Stuart and Daryl escape from the facility.

It's hard to believe that a computer brain would get "knocked out" and that Daryl wouldn't know how to get free of the ejection seat and swim away. It's more probable that Daryl deliberately landed in the lake, and had his brain put his body into a state of hibernation so that if the military investigated further after destroying the SR71, there would be records to show that Daryl had actually died--hence, the military would end their search. Case closed.

Dr. Lamb knew that the simulated drowning was the plan all along, and knew which hospital Daryl would be taken to. Therefore, she was there in the parking lot, ready to reactivate his brain when the time came.

The ending does seem weird.
I wonder if there was a movie tie-in book, or if a shooting script is online. Either one of those could help explain it.

One weird edit I noticed - when DARYL starts running to Turtle, look at his hair. There is a cut. I wonder if some scene was edited in from somewhere else.
