Which is a pity.
This is a pretty blatant rip-off but not without charm.
If it was made these days, the monster woudl be CGI, the actors in their teens, and there'd be a soundtrack with crud like wheezer or ash playing on it.
Its not what you'd call a good film, but even a bad 80's film is more entertaining than a modern day big budget movie.

I couldn't of said-it better myself.
B-films of the 70s and 80s (even early '90s) had heart! Not only heart, but a THEATRICAL RELEASE. It was that movie that appeared at the bottom of the movie section in the newspaper, playing in about six theaters throughout the state. They'd have a has-been star in it or that guy that's in every b-flick.
They need to start this up again. Theatrical B-films...you rarely see it anymore, if at all.
