Cocoon....oh my god

It's as bad as Big. I hate these old people. Why did the sheriff from First Blood turn out to be an alien? This is the second worst movie ever commited to film. Strike that, Tom Hanks if fun and pleasent. These old people are crotchity and weird. THIS IS THE WORST MOVIE EVER! EVER? EVER!

Sincerely,
Rico Odyssey

PS
These old people killed the aliens in the Cocoon and took there youth. Sounds like a bunch of old Vampires who should learn to die with dignity. And Steve G. as the captain... tour de force preformance. Bravo Steve, bravo. Everyone else is garbage except Brian D.

What the heck? It was good. If you like sci-fi, if not, you'll hate it.

OP how old are you?

Obviously you've never seen "Troll 2." Which surprises me, because I'd think you'd be interested in watching movies about your own kind. Troll.

Wow, OP, calm down. It's just a film. If a film can give you feelings that passionate, whether positive or negative, there's a problem. And I've seen people overreact, but this is a new one to me.

reply

LMFAO. I actually stayed up late to watch the so-called Troll 2. I watched the first one through Hulu.com, but man was Troll 2 a giant piece of crap.

reply

I wouldn't quite phrase it as the OP does, but I thought this was quite a bad film too. It's boring, I didn't care for any cast member at any time, Steve Guttenburg's only achievement is to be bearable in a couple of Police Academy movies and the whole thing just feels like what it would be like if Steven Spielberg decided to make a B-movie. The whole concept simply did not interest me.

I realize I am very late in posting this because you started this thread in 2008 and it's now Feb 2013 but I feel I must respond anyway.

Are you trashing this movie because you simply did not like it or are you trashing it because it has OLD people in it???

I can understand you not liking it. I personally liked it but after viewing it a few times I don't like it as much as I did.

If you dislike it because of all thos awful old people in it well..... I'm old myself. I got old early because of the type of work I did. I have some rather bad news for you Jack and I don't think you can handle it but I'm telling you anyway. That news is you are going to get old yourself and it's gonna happen a lot faster than you think it will. Heck it only seems like it was a couple of weeks ago I was 18 years old.

I'm going to make a prediction here. If you really seriously meant what you said in your post I predict you are going to be one of those old people who hate young people and think they owe you something. If you only said what you said to get a reaction out of people then please forget what I just said.

If you really did mean it then I'd bet you'll be one of those who tell young people " Well I NEVER did that when I was your age." and it will ALWAYS be something you DID do when you were young.

Quite honestly I hope I am wrong. I watched my parents age and die. It was not a pretty sight. There was no hollywood moment where they say their last words and then quietly close their eyes forever. It almost NEVER happens like that.
Enjoy your life. Quit hating old people. One of the most rewarding things a person can do is help people at the end of their lives. I'm not talking dropping in for 10 minutes, saying hi, then getting the hell out of there. No I am talking about actually helping them and it's not as terrible as you think.

good post/reply thunderclud47 - "Cocoon" was highly praised on its origianl release for its inclusion older character and actors which was rare at that time for a sci-fi or big budget Hollywood movie. It's a great piece of entertainment and a lovely, thoughtful, touching film

Very much agree and OP...I love BIG as well.

reply

Thundercloud,
Your post was as touching as this movie was.

reply

I agree with the OP. I mean, who the hell puts so many old people into one movie. That's not normal. They should remake it with a bunch of hot college kids, instead of these old farts.

reply

What's wrong with having old people in a film? You got something against that?

reply

It is wonderful to have older folks in films and should be done more often. I'm so done with films that follow that route of having to include the obligatory blonde bombshell or some hot guy in his trunks just to make it appealing for a wider audience.

In fact the inclusion of senior citizens in this flick was not its most endearing feature (because really we don't pity them, we celebrate their ability to reflect their inner youth in a physical way once again), but it shows us that only the body fails us - the mind is still young. It would be condescending to pity the older folks aside from the parts we are supposed to find moving. The biggest tear comes from the Antareans (sp?)when they are robbed unintentionally of their life force - aside from the sequel where they tampered with one selfishly.

I suppose you don't intend living long enough yourself to become an old fart someday. It just wouldn't be normal.
