The jingle used in the Coca-Cola Kid

I have been looking all over the web for a MP3 version of the jingle used in the movie by Timm Finn its called "Strange Night" according to IMDB. It was such a catchy and fun jingle I have been looking to get it. Does somebody have a rip from the soundtrack or film that is decent.

Thanks

"don't wanna go where there's no coca-cola!"

What the *beep* is a Chinese Downhill?!?

the song was catchy, but a bit morbid:

"world by the throat"
"choke back the tears"
"dying of thirst"

Yeah I think the song is one of the best parts of the movie - it really is very addictive. I kind of wish that band they'd assembled had been real and done more stuff.

reply

Hi CactusHazretleri . . .

I can't tell if you're playing about or not, but the band in this scene was essentially late-period Split Enz. As they're singing, the camera frequently cuts to the late Paul Hester (also later in Crowded House), and in the film's end credits, Tim, Paul, Neil Finn and Nigel Griggs are all credited as playing on the jingles, among others.

If you already knew it, please forgive my literal-mindedness. You're right about the tune -- I saw the movie when it first came out in the 80s, and the music has stayed with me all these years (along with Greta Scacchi's beauty).

reply

No, sadly I'm just very hopelessly out of the music loop. Thanks for the info!

reply

The lead is Tim Finn who at the time was in Split Enz with his brother Neil. check Split Enz out for similar style. He dated Greta Scacchi. The brothers went on to form Crowded House.

Coca-Cola Jingle from The Coca-Cola Kid -- Lyrics

Ow!

Don't want to go where there's no Coca-Cola
You've got
Life by the throat when you're drinking Coke

Choke back the tears when there's no Coca-Cola
You've got
Life by the throat when you're drinking Coke

Under the hot sun
When the day is done
And you're dying of thirst
There's only one drink, it's universal

Don't want to go where there's no Coca-Cola
You've got
Life by the throat when you're drinking Coke

Choke back the tears when there's no Coca-Cola
You've got
Life by the throat when you're drinking Coke
You've got
Life by the throat when you're drinking Coke
You've got
Life by the throat when you're drinking Coke
You say
Keeps you up 'cause there's nothing like Coke

The leader of the band (played by Tim Finn) is named Phil. Can't help but think this is a nod to Phil Judd, his childhood friend with whom he started the band Split Enz. Phil left the band after about five years and they became estranged and bitter toward each other. Tim wrote the songs "Charlie" and "I hope I never (have to see you again)" about Phil Judd.

The drummer is played by Paul Hester, the last drummer for Split Enz and co-founder of Crowded House with Tim's brother Neil Finn and bassist Nick Seymour. Paul Hester committed suicide in 2005.
