Where were the bush scenes shot?

Several times in the movie, you see Becker driving along the top of a tremendous cliff. On the one hand I imagine it could have been somewhere near the Bluies, perhaps Kanangra Boyd, because it is so close to Sydney. But then other scenes show red dust, which doesn't exist so close to Sydney. And where is that town on the hill?
