why do people start crying after he said "my wife is socialist"?

why do people start crying after he said "my wife is socialist"?

i don't get it.

that's like saying people starts crying after somebody say "my wife is democrat"

reply

Because the film is set in the McCarthy Era.

reply

so what if it's set in the mccarthy era, why would people cry?

reply

Google McCarthyism.

This was the 1950s. Socialism was not considered a good thing. Same reason Mr. Green is being blackmailed for being a homosexual.

reply

Except I don't think Green was being blackmailed for being homosexual. If you look at Wadsworth right after Green says it, his expression is pure shock, and he immediately starts rifling through his papers, as if to say, "Where was THAT in here???"

I've often wondered what the real reason for blackmailing Green was.

reply

" Socialism was not considered a good thing."

It isn't.

reply

Well I have relatives and friends who think our country America should be socialist. I disagree but I can't talk to them because they are so insistant about it.

reply

They’re in a cult.

It’s utterly bizarre that people still champion socialism when there have been countless examples of its failure and massive death toll, including live examples today. Socialism is even more toxic than Nazism - and you don’t see anyone seriously trying to resurrect the latter.

reply

They think the government should take 50% of the money Billionaires and millionaires make and distribute it evenly among everyone in the country. What they refuse to accept is that this would get rid of the distribution of products, shut down all stores and restaurants, and require everyone to buy their own farms and grow their own food. Otherwise they'd all starve to death.

reply

who the hell thinks america should be a command economy. please point them out. hot tip, a slightly higher tax on certain areas and public healthcare is not "da socialism". its called a mixed market economy. like the US already has, but more in one direction

reply

Actually, there are many who advocate for a command economy. It's mostly out of ignorance caused by living in the college life bubble. I have many disagreements with most people on the healthcare issue. It's still good to hear ideas about it. Though I'm pretty set in my ways. My favorite is the UBI argument. People think it would be a good idea. Problem is, they don't volunteer to do taxes for poor people. When you see the returns, not only does it show that we have UBI for the underprivileged, but that also shows that it doesn't better their lives. 4 years and they keep returning with the same issues regardless of how much they receive. I do reccommed volunteer with VITA. It's a good experience and it you meet interesting people.

reply

who is this "many". what's many? 10? 100? 10000? 1000 000? oh so some poor powerless college kids who grow out of it 1 year later lol. wow you sure showed me all those "pro command economy" people. do I get to point to right wing students who discover libertarian and think total anarchy capitalism is the right way and say "see lots of people think that!". its the fringe outlier, nothing more than that.

the US communist party has 3000 members. or 0.000002% of the population.

the rest of the entire first world countries have universal healthcare. based off metrics its objectively superior. thats not even up for dispute

again who is talking about UBI? Andrew Yang? how did that go? buddy you are pointing to the fringes and outliers as if its the majority and mainstream. stop doing that and you will start making coherent good points.

you seem to not care about reality and address what most people say. instead you point to straw men and easily dismissed outliers and say "see! they are all saying that!"

do I get to do that? start acting like the white christian nationalists are the mainstream republicans and acting like thats the majority?

reply

Ooo. Touched a nerve there. Lol. The post to wasn a fight or argument.
Now, good luck in the future. I still recommend vita. It's a great time.

reply

touched a nerve? are you this stupid? I mean I assumed so from your first reply but now you are taking it to the next level.

first you say "oh ya all those commie college kids". then you give me a libertarian, not communist arguement, IBU, as proof of communism........then you say they have IBU already. what welfare?

you said some of the dumbest things ive ever read.

reply

You say that a lot on moviechat. It's kind of funny how you want another argument. Sorry sunshine, but Clue is a fun movie that doesn't need your politics or anyone else's politics. Good luck fighting everyone who doesn't agree with you.

‘Leodicaprio’ is an arch wokist, gay stalker, and it’s no surprise to now learn… a socialist. He’s an example of the perverse spiteful mutants that our unbelievably prosperous societies are spitting out. People with no real problems (because they live off the wealth produced by previous hard working generations) are very susceptible to socialist indoctrination - and it happens a lot now that universities are completely captured by the hard Left.

Even with catastrophic examples like Venezuela staring them in the face, these mutants still champion the nightmare of socialism 🤦🏻‍♂️

reply

They already know the punchline and it invokes a similar response to the first time they heard the gag 😜

reply

Because it was during the McCarthy Era and being a socialist meant you were blacklisted and essentially banned from polite society.

And being a Democrat is pretty much the worst thing you can be so their reaction is justified.
