One of the more difficult ones on MST 3K

"Today's experiment features Rae Dawn Chong at a high point in her career and James Earl Jones, er, at a low point."

I actually can't remember anything about the film other than some of the bits the guys did in the breaks. I can't even recall why I remembered this at all.

"why is that watermelon there?"

Yes, not the best choice for an mst3k episode - City Limits is actually a good film - should not have been placed in the same category as Prince of Space and Master Ninja.

reply

It WOULD DEFFO be a BOSS film only if it had better sound and picture quality, It has a good cast of actors too and a good plot.

If anything, It should be re made or re mastered, Thats all really.

I like the title of the film 'City Limits' too.

"Good plot"... Yea, no not at all. Just another Mad Max rip off.

Yes, I too was fortunate to view this lovable, albiet kidney stone of a movie on MST 3K. If you're looking for a no-brainer, watch this! Great cast, odd movie. Fabulous motorcycle theme costumes! Horrible diaglog. Robby Bendson dies in it... a plus in my book!

Keep circulating the tape to misties everywhere!

It's the way Robby Benson dies that makes this so memorable. One of the all time most ridiculous deaths in movie history, and which MST3K so rightly lampooned. Honestly, I can't believe there are people here defending this film - it's truly horrid, the low points in the careers of all the cast involved. The plot could have been something yeah, but it's an incompetently made mess. It did however give Crow T Robot his Kim Cattral fixation.

Definitely one of my favorite MST3K episodes with Joel (as they all were).

"There's got to be a way out of this film." LOL

reply

Oh mu God, they're killing gorton's fishermen...............

I think this was a fabulous MST3K episodes...the guys give some great one liners (even more than usual)

as for the movie itself...all I could ever gather was that Benson sat at his table shuffling papers, everyone likes comic books a lot, and gas is obviously in no short supply. And then Benson got crushed by his own desk...or something.

Boring as hell, i've watched the MST3K version like five times now and I'm still no closer to understanding what was happening or why. And I have a hard time concentrating on the riffing because i'm so bored and puzzled about what is going on in the film. Several people have said the plot is great and the movie should be remade. To that I reply: "What the hell have you guys been smoking?!!"

reply

"Wow, they should take better care of their pets!"
"We need to get outta here; those guy's theme costumes are kicking our ass!"
"Ladies and gentlemen... It's Antonio Fargas as Huggy Bear... featuring The Kubuki Kids!"
"Rae Dawn... Nooooooooooooooooo!!!"
"Oh no, they've lapped the plot! Joel, the movie's starting all over again."
"And so I fell for Kim Katrall... Pal Mal"
"Even the band is throwing up!!!................. lyrics.... 'cause every scene I see... just makes me wanna die!"

HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE THIS MOVIES. INCREDIBLE ENSEMBLE CAST, LOTS OF TALENT, ALBIET WASTED ON THIS SCRIPT, AND JOHN DIEHL (MIAMI VICE GUY) DRINKING OLD MILWAUKEE BEER THROUGHOUT THE FLICK AND OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH SOME SORT OF CHEMICAL DEPENCENCY ISSUE! WOW. INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE... MAKES ME NOSTALGIC FOR THOSE DAYS... SET 15 YEARS IN THE FUTURE OF 1985, WITH FLASHBACKS TO 15 YEARS PRIOR, WHICH WOULD BE THE NOW OF WHEN MST3K DID THE FILM, WHICH WAS 15 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK (VIEWED ON THE TURKEY DAY SPECIAL). JOHN DIEHL... AWESOME GUY, COOL AS HELL... MY SISTER IS HIS NEIGHBOR IN OJAI, CALIFORNIA... HE SAYS OF THOSE DAYS... "IT WAS THE EIGHTIES... I WAS IN SHAPE, TOP OF MY GAME (BOXING) AND REALLY ENJOYING LIFE." He now really enjoys life with his family and career. Now he is truly on top of his game. Watch this movie!!!

Yeah, it's not an extremely memorable one. Apparently the last bit is about 'in the movie 'city limits' what was the name of the movie?' and they can't remember what it is.

I guess it did have people who have been in better films, I guess that's something. OH, and Dean Devlin (ID4) was in it, too.

reply

Yeah, the film by itself seems kinda dark and dull, but the MST gang livens it up quite a bit...they made a lot of great quips on the film

(When JEJ makes his 1st appearance): "This is CNN...Git off my land!"

(When JEJ is flying an toy plane equipped with bombs at bad guys):
"This is CNN, heh heh heh!" "This is F-U-N."

(The characters start eating cat food with a risque-sounding name brand) "This is so wrong on so many levels."

(At the end, as the end theme begins with the background singers apparently chanting "Blech-blech, blech-blech, uugh!") "Even the band is vomiting!"

And let's not forget how many times they referred to the telephone with all the gaudily-colored buttons as the "Cheese Phone"!

My favorite line from this was when Rae Dawn Chong kicks the motorcyle over and Crow goes, "Must be a kickstart". The F-U-N line was classic, too. Seems like the MST guys could've come up with more 3 letter one liners for James Earl Jones. "This is D-U-M". Hahahaha!

"It's pre-pay after dark."

I remember that one for some reason.
