Best movie ever - Fricke is a genius- but shoestring?

I just made a feature length timelapse film, its not as good as chronos, but we only had around 30k including living expenses. What kind of shoestring budget allows you to circle the globe for years? like 2 million bucks? And IMAX film stock, not for the poor, I checked. While modern digital filmmakers like myself have technological advantages fricke never dreamed of, all the after effects proccessing in the world cannot match taking a crew out to the great pyramids. I just think it hurts the chances of people like myself when multimillionaires with studio connections are reffered to as though they made it on a wing and a prayer.

- my movie is better than "White Chicks" and that cost 61 million bucks

El Mariachi.

Brilliance need not require expense. Perhaps start off small and slowly turnover into bigger films (more/further locations, perhaps). If the work is sincere and compelling, it should do well.

Yes. I saw the the word "shoestring" and scratched my head thinking of those very reasons you cite, Nate. I saw images of the camera used and think the person writing the critique has a seriously skewed sense of what the term really means.

There have been many films produced throughout the world. Money has nothing to do with money and/or genius.

Fricke hand-built a 70mm camera and used Mark Magidson's Hasselblad lens to shoot a majority of Chronos. Watch the documentary on the disc and it explains how he was able to do it so cheaply. It was easier for him to go out when everyone had time... plus they didn't incur the cost of renting a IMAX camera + insurance.

Almost every movie ever made was better than "White Chicks".
