It's been a while since I've been this moved...

...by something with so little artistic or creative aspirations. Not to say it was bad or anything, it's just not something I expected to connect with so fully, what with its unabashed campy feel and an almost post-apocalyptic tone. I was positively surprised at how little the actual plot had progressed halfway into the film - it's a mood piece almost, with drawn out (if involving) scenes and some seriously deliberate pacing for a b-movie about two girls on the run. All in all I felt it was a genuinely well crafted film for what it is, with some inspired choices from a directorial standpoint (love the final shot) as well as some evocative/memorable settings: the blue-lit sewers, the white trash complex, the drug hideout, and so on. Beautiful music and beautiful ending as well - two unwritten requirements for a film to reside amongst my all-time favourites. It was really quite an experience to sit through.

As a side note, watching this before one or two in the morning is a crime!
