The Mother

Who else had a strong dislike, even feelings bordering on hatred, for the mother in "The General"? I don't care how much she disliked cats. Sneaking around behind her daughter's back for the sole purpose of taking the cat to the animal shelter so it could be killed, is beyond cruel in my book. I wish the troll had chosen HER as a target.

Yes, I quite disliked her too. In fact, I don't think her husband liked her much either! I kept saying 'that Bitch!' all through watching it. The only good thing I can say for her, is that she didn't poison the cat like I thought she was going to do... and she did let her keep the cat in the end. Even besides the cat she seemed like a bitch. When the daughter screamed and the parents went running she told her husband "get out of my way". Bitchy all the way around.

"I'm trying to see things from your point of view but I can't stick my head that far up my ass."

She was overly angry and overly bitchy. The troll should have gotten to her before the cat got to him so the father and the daughter could have had a decent life, along with General.

I totally agree! I've watched this movie several times in the last couple of months and the mother becomes even more irritating! And then I had to question why would she just have her little girl outside at night during the start of a storm yelling and looking for this cat that she knew she had taken to the shelter?! You know the cat isn't out there AND your little girl shouldn't be out there in the first place so get her in the house! I didn't care for the mother character at all.

OMG, what a bitch she was!!! Amanda only got to keep the cat because she had to blackmail the evil witch. Could you imagine Amanda's teenage years and boyfriends. With a mom like that, she'll be a virgin for life, or become a runaway. lol

The gamblers were worst. Betting over the cat get killed and trying to edge it on.

My mother is the same way with cats. I grew up being told I was allergic to cats and of course believed it. I was told it all the time even when I went to dr appointments for a cold or flu she'd say things like "I told her to not go to her friend's house because they have a cat, she's allergic." I would go to the friend's house and love all over the cat, I'd never sneeze or anything. But I believed my mom.

I married and my husband had a cat. My mom, of course, warned me but the cat was an inside-outside one & I did fine when we were dating. After we married and I moved in with my husband I had no issues allergy wise either. I thought it was weird but didn't think much about it. My mom of course still complained nonstop and asked me over the phone about the darn cat and warned me I'd be sick and so on. Then about 6-7yrs later we got two kittens. Yet again I heard it all, how I'm allergic and so on.

Long story short, I'm not allergic at all. Eventually, my mom admitted it to me saying, "I just said that because I hate cats." Go figure. That's my mom, I have millions of odd narcissistic lies and stories she's told me & others all my life. lol So this mom is more of a gem compared to mine. After being married 25+ years I've owned a total of 6 cats. I'm Dr. confirmed not allergic too. Just bad sinus issues. But, guess what??? Owning cats keeps her away. That's a plus lol

Couldn't stand her! As I recall, she played a bitch in that other 80s movie with Sean Penn called, "At Close Range" with the same, exact facial expression!
