when they first met i the park, kim and jason were walking moodily in a park, and they were mean to the bears because they were abandoned as it was mentioned.
so who took care of them? they looked well dressed and healthy.
I'm pretty sure they were living in an orphanage at the time.

While telling the story, Mr. Cherrywood says, "They had been so hurt when their parents went away that they had decided to never trust anyone ever again."
Did their parents die or just abandon(sp) them? Because it could go either way. Any thoughts?
I've always assumed that their parents died but the last time I was watching this my boyfriend asked me what happened to them and I wasn't able to give him a straight answer. Only assumptions.
I think they said their parents went away because they didn't want to say died. A little less disturbing for little kids? I always assumed they were in an orphanage.

Kim and Wish Bear state that the children live in an orphanage. Their parents abandoned them. If they had died, Kim and Jason would not think that there was no meaning to the words love and friends. Jason says in the beginning that people whom you get close to always let you down. While they would have been devastated by their parents' deaths, Kim and Jason would not have viewed these events as insulting since both would have been out of their parents' control. Before going to Care-A-Lot the siblings are bitter and hurt because their parents have intentionally left them to move out of their lives, which makes Kim and Jason feel worthless.
