The 'New' Care Bears

I rented one of the new collection of episodes of the "new" Care Bears to see how bad it really was. I'm appalled. I couldn't believe how much has changed. Even the bears! For those of you who haven't see it, these are the difference I found.

- To do the notorious Care Bear Stare, they first rub their tummy and then stuff will shoot out. No more countdown.

- There are NO Care Bear cousins that I saw

- There are NO children that I saw. So what is that they're supposed to doing?

- They have changed some of their tummy symbols.
Share Bear, who used to have the little ice cream shake with two straws on her tummy now has two suckers. And she carries a purse. Why? I haven't a clue.
Funshine Bear is now a boy who wears a baseball cap.
True Heart Bear (The mother figure from Care Bears Movie II), now instead of having a heart inside of a star, has a heart surrounded by triangles that are in the shape of a star.

- Some Care Bears have been replaced all together. There is now Surprise Bear, Oopsie Bear, Daydream Bear, and several others that I can't recall. And two new babies whom I guess are supposed to be Hugs and Tugs although they didn't say their new names while I was watching.

- In the special that I saw, the lesson that I guess they're trying to teach children is don't lie. First Share Bear lied, then Oopsie lied, and then Grumpy lied. I guess it's too much for them to go down to Earth anymore and help all the children. Which I guess would be difficult since they no longer have cloud cars anymore.

- The only villain that I saw was an ex-Care Bear (I'm guessing) who has now made himself a giant suit of armor to be in so that now he's twice the size of a regular Care Bear. No more Lord No Heart. No more Shreeky. No more Beastly.

- All the Care Bears look a lot younger. Like they're children playing instead of adults helping.

- Even Care-a-Lot is different. Only if grass was needed for the story did we ever see grass in Care-a-Lot as children. The rest of the time it was clouds. Now grass is everywhere and Care-a-Lot is like a town where everyone just plays all the time. I didn't see one cloud anywhere, except in the sky. After each episode it would show what Care-a-Lot looked like from afar and it's like a town in the middle of clouds but it's not made of clouds. I don't get it.

If you put children in charge of a cartoon, this is what you most likely would get. Kids don't understand that the Care Bears once had a purpose in life. That there's more than just playing. And the only lesson you have to learn is don't lie. I want to go up to the people who had this idea for a cartoon and punch them. Then I want to punch the head of the company who green lighted this horrible show. Then I want to go up to each child who saw this and liked it and smack the crap out of their parents for not teaching their children what good Care Bears are supposed to be.

Please tell me that I'm not the only one who hated this new franchise and wish they could make new episodes of the old Care Bears without changing everything.

From what I remember, I was okay with it. I found it cute in places, though I had limited knowledge of the 80s TV series, despite having fond memories of this movie as a kid. I don't remember that much now of this version (and there's now an even newer version that I yet to really watch), but it wasn't that bad.

What we need to bear in mind (pun totally intended) is that they are different shows, it's not supposed to directly follow the other versions, and it’s supposed to be its own version. Different world, different characters, different show. In my personal opinion, different versions of shows should only be viewed as part of the same world if you are doing some kind of fanfiction about them, and you need them to be in the same world. Other than that, they are not the same show.

- There are NO children that I saw. So what is that they're supposed to doing?
There are children sometimes, but in the episodes that there are not they are working on their own relationships, I think. From what I remember the version you're talking about was more focused on the Care Bears' own life, and relationship with one another. I think.

I have no idea if they ever included cousins in this version or not though, I will check in a sec.

They have changed some of their tummy symbols.
Share Bear, who used to have the little ice cream shake with two straws on her tummy now has two suckers. And she carries a purse. Why? I haven't a clue.

Once again, it's a different show so it's not that they changed the characters or their symbols or anything, so much as they simply reused their names. They are not supposed to be the same characters (though they do share similar character traits, which is a given as their name reflects who they are, and how they act).

I will admit that the 80s Share Bear's symbol sounds cuter though, I dunno why.

Some Care Bears have been replaced all together. There is now Surprise Bear, Oopsie Bear, Daydream Bear, and several others that I can't recall. And two new babies whom I guess are supposed to be Hugs and Tugs although they didn't say their new names while I was watching.
They are simply new characters, nothing more nothing less (though some or all may have been inspired by other characters) as it is a new show, they have the right to introduce new characters as they would have thought of them by now, especially if it's based on a toyline or has a toyline. For all we know, if the 80s version had been like The Simpsons and just carried on as is they may have introduced these characters eventually anyway.

I also thought that the babies could be Hugs and Tugs, but never confirmed it myself from what I remember.

- The only villain that I saw was an ex-Care Bear (I'm guessing) who has now made himself a giant suit of armor to be in so that now he's twice the size of a regular Care Bear. No more Lord No Heart. No more Shreeky. No more Beastly.
I dunno if that was the origin of the villain, but I agree he was pretty lame. I think he talked to a toy or something. Anyway, I don't have that many memories of the 80s version, and don't remember No Heart at all (aside from an image that might be him.) I do vaguely remember Shreeky and Beastly though, but ultimately not enough to compare them to this villain (who I think was named "Grizzly" or "Grizzle" or something), but he was still lame on his own - he was the character cared about the least I think.

All the Care Bears look a lot younger. Like they're children playing instead of adults helping.
May just be the animation, I can't remember if they were children, but the probably were. Either way they do "help" at times.

I think it was supposed to be built on a cloud, but the town/city (whatever Care-a-Lot was) is built normally so it's less noticeable it's own a cloud. I can see why some people wouldn't like this, as they have grown used to how "their" Care-a-Lot is more obviously a cloud world, rather than just a world in the clouds. It's simply what this version chose to do.

If you put children in charge of a cartoon, this is what you most likely would get. Kids don't understand that the Care Bears once had a purpose in life. That there's more than just playing. I think there was more than just playing, as I vaguely remember it being about how they were with each other. It's ultimately a kid's show, but I do find myself analyzing kid's shows that I really like due to the fact I tend to look at them from an extended version of how I used to look at them as a child (I always analyzed them, but now I can put it on paper if I choose to). I have no idea if the 80s version was more clever or thought provoking or anything, as I barely remember if I watched it properly as a kid, despite loving this movie (though when I get chance to, I might try out the 80s series), but take it from me those who saw this or the newer version first may one day try out the older version. Even if they are kids.

Just because something's old doesn't stop it existing, and it's now easier to check out the past.
