God, this movie sucks!

I am real sorry but this movie (or the lack of it) sucks big time. I mean it's not evcen a movie, it looks like a bunch of kids went with a video camera and flimed themselves.. and how they get Annette is beyond me..

I haven't seen this movie but I've seen a bunch of long clips on youtube and the acting is pretty bad.I loved the new 2007 version, though.

reply

Yeah I've seen the clips on Youtube. They were not very good. I personally didn't like from what I've seen. They didn't even build the bridge in the end. I really like the new one (2007).

ProfessorPoopy i've seen the clips on youtube they act so weird its creepy.

One, it was made in 1985, don't don't expect Lord of the Rings qualaty, and it was made on the cheap for television. Secondly, what you need to look at is the storyline.

The new one is a zillon times better!!

reply

awww, you guys are just too young to appreciate 80s tv movies. i haven't seen the new one, and i have no doubt it's better. but the mid-80s version is a classic nonetheless.

Morbid curiosity compelled me to buy a used copy of this, just to compare it to the masterpiece Disney version. Luckily I paid less than $8 for it.

The only positive I have is that there were a couple of scenes that followed the book more closely.

Anyone else notice that the dialogue sounded like that of a Charlie Brown TV special? Except for the Canadian accents, of course.

There was no personality to any of the actors. Even Annette O'Toole phoned in her performance. I wonder what they blackmailed her with do get her to do this bilge!

reply

Hey, now that you netion it does sound Charlie Brownish.

Especially May Belle. Christ, that little girl was annoying. Annoyingly funny.

I am real sorry but this argument (or lack of it) sucks big time. I mean, it's not even a real discussion, it looks like a bunch of basement dwellers with internet connections got their hate on.

I actually saw this around the time it first came on because I was born in the early 80s, I was about 4 years old when I saw it the first time and I loved it, I still like it today, the remake is good too don't get me wrong, I like both versions. The 1985 version holds memories for me and thats why I like it.

reply

I'm sorry, but the acting is terrible - to a point of hilarity, of course.

I can't focus on the storyline if the horrible acting is so damn distracting. You can't tell me to ignore the acting when that's what a movie is about. And, yeah, its a TV movie in the mid 80's it's obviously not going to be terrific, but still.. wow. lol.
