there was planned sequels to come out every ten years

to give an update on their lives

the sequels with the biggest changes in the characters lives would have been

1994 - 2004 with 9/11 and internet
2014 - 2024 with covid 19

1984 - 1994 wouldn't be much of a difference
2004 - 2014 myspace, facebook, texting

they didn't do it partly because john hughes didn't like judd nelson that much

1984-1994 would have been finding out how useless their education was. Computers were taking over, music had changed.
2004-2014 Bender is finally out of prison. The Jock is fat and never did make it in sports, the nerd created a site called MyFace and is a billionaire. Princess is the wife of a plastic surgeon and has had a boob job, the goth chick is a best selling author.

Good call, though I'd always hoped Bender might become a mechanic for NASCAR and make tons of money.

Lol.

The jockbro is now 200k in debt with a job at Enterprise rent-a-car.

Nerd is the only one who’s be making enough to make his $900mo student loan payments.

Miss pristine would be a pharmaceutical sales rep. She never had any loan debt, her parents paid for SC. Her boob job will ensure she’s taken care of when she marries a rich dude.

The goth chic has purple hair and is still in school, $325k in debt, getting her second masters in women’s studies. She’ll make an excellent barista one day.

Bender is bartender in Vegas. Screwing hot chicks and has a gf who’s a pharma rep paying his rent. She loves his tats. Also has $150k saved because he didn’t waste his time on worthless “higher education”.

imdb trivia
"It was originally suggested that there would be several sequels to this movie, occurring every ten years, in which "The Breakfast Club" would get back together. This did not come to pass, due to the volatile relationship between John Hughes and Judd Nelson (John Bender). Hughes stated that he would never work with Nelson again. Also, it was unclear whether or not Hughes still held ill will against his oft-cast starlet, Molly Ringwald (Claire Standish). They had a falling out in the late eighties, after Ringwald decided to move on from the teen film genre to pursue more adult roles, thus severing her relationship with Hughes. "

Hughs had a similar beef with Anthony Michael Hall. The guy held grudges.

Whatever the F was Judd Nelson's problem overall? He was lucky to even have a career with his oddball looks and imho very annoying personality. He really turned into a self-parody too by the 90s when he became tabloid fodder for dating TV actresses (Shannon Doherty).

I can't help but feel that this was made up.

interesting , didnt happen sadly.

Anyone think of any similar films where a sequel was made a long time later showing how the characters had got on?
"Trainspotting" springs to mind

Reminds me of Richard Linklater and the Before Sunrise trilogy. We basically have that idea with Before Sunrise (1995), Before Sunset (2004), and Before Midnight (2013). We catch up with Jesse and Celine every 9 years.

I don't know if those BC sequels would've been plausible though. Why would they get back together after 10 years? They just feel like calling each other up? I heard in the supposed sequel that they would be in college, but 10 years is way later than their college years.

My own friend group from high school is all scattered across the nation. There's no reason for us to get back together. I mean maybe it will happen one day, but people lose track of each other after high school. People also change a lot. I've changed since high school.

If you ever delve deep into the workings of John Hughes you'll see that he often burned bridges for fairly weak reasons.

Now they're just straight up remaking it with some millennial shit called 'The Class'.

With the success of Cobra Kai, I think a streaming series revisiting the Breakfast Club group would be fascinating and must-watch TV if there is such a thing.
