Molly Ringwald's idiotic comments

Is Hollywood the new home of Puritanism?

(Not behind the scenes, of course...)

reply

As idiotic as her comments might be, reading that article sent me on a John hughes kick where I saw several of his films and read/saw old interviews. There is nothing bad that does not bring about something good.

reply

Interesting.

Puritanism? I don't think so.

Hollywood revels in it's depravity, and always will.

What it's doing now is eating it's own kind. I have no sympathy for Weinstein or the rest of the real pervs and am actually enjoying watching the far left stepping on the land mines they set.

It's true they're slime behind the scenes, but they go along with this narrative that women are somehow in constant danger of being attacked wherever they go which has, in turn, made sex scary to heterosexual women and, thus, reflects puritanical attitudes toward sex.

reply

When I think of "Puritanism", I think of the general consensus that sex is bad, even within the context of marriage (women should be chaste and endure sex simply to llet the men relieve themselves of their manly urges). If a woman dares enjoy sex, a couple of days at the town square stocks will fix that (and of course, some serious praying).

The problem today is that the extremes in their ranks have gotten to the point where "all women must be believed", which is fine if no woman on earth would ever lie about such things. Or course, we all know of women who do lie and even of men who spent decades in prison because women were believed without any proof.

My hope is that one day there will be a "Star Trek" type truth detecting device that will be 100% accurate. Boy, would that simplify things...
