To those saying Bender and Claire shouldn't have ended up together...

I think Bender and Claire being together actually makes sense. I thought it was quite clear throughout the film that Claire found Bender and his antics quite attractive, and was conflicted by his attitude towards her. At the same time, the way Bender treated her seemed like he was lashing out from frustration that her start in life (specifically her parents) had been so much better than his, and he resented her for that. I think she saw that in the end, came to understand a lot about his character. This is why when she approaches him at the end he doesn't push her away at all, and when he asks why she kissed him she replies "because I know you wouldn't have". In other words, "I know that in this isolated space with no-one else around, you wouldn't take advantage or be mean, because that's for them not you". It also works for her as a means of rebellion, basically to 'get back at her parents'.

However, I think that Alison should have ended up with Brian rather than Andrew. They seemed to have far more of a connection, especially when talking about friends (specifically loyalty). Even though she was all kinds of crazy, she was obviously talented (the drawing) in an unconventional way (the dandruff!). I think she just needed someone to understand her, and Brian would be more than capable of that, and being more accepting of her quirks. Also she is so care-free, which would appeal to his highly pressured life, and he is sensible and would adore her, appealing to her as she craves attention.

The only part of this film that really didn't appeal to me was Alison's makeover and pairing up with Andrew. He accepts her for her looks and nothing else, and she accepts that... it's so pathetic! She is worth so much more as who she was, though maybe sadly that's kind of the point, having to 'conform' or be lonely...
