Flare gun?

I never understand that part. Did Brian want to kill himself or not? He was very smart, so he obviously knew a flare gun wouldn't kill you, unless you, you know, set yourself on fire. Why did he have that in his locker if he was thinking about killing himself? I couldn't and still can't ever think of a situation in which that makes sense.

I don't think he really wanted to kill himself but I also think he was showing how fcked up his mother is in pressuring him. I am sure the flare gun was the only thing he could get a hold of.

book smarts doesn't mean anything when you talk about the real world. do you know how many young adults who graduated suma cum laude from Nebraska or somewhere come to NYC only to get abducted or 'lost'??? too many! Heck, if the boys who did columbine weren't as smart as they were, that attack would not have happened the way it did -- same with attacks, too. and yeah you can say that they were bullied but the world judges you on how you react to things.

how many high schoolers do you know who do things that make sense???

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

Well, I got the feeling it was supposed to make sense, the way they set it up in the story line. You're right, though; the flare gun was probably the only thing Brian could get ahold of.
