A question about the different versions of the film. (Spoilers!)

I just got Brazil from Netflix, and I loved it!After I watched, I read about the different versions of the film, including the changed ending. The sleeve of the movie said "Brazil (entire film)", and ran at 142 minutes, the same length as a copy labeled as "Terry Gilliam's Final Cut". Does this version include all the footage? More importantly, did I watch, arguably, the best version?

reply

What happened at the end?

reply

Watch the movie before you figure it out, please. Believe me, it's interesting the less you know about it.

reply

I saw the movie already, both versions of the ending. Im just curious which you saw.

reply

I recommend you get the Critierion edition that includes all versions, you can watch them all and figure it out yourself.

I'd answer the question if I could, but it's been many many years since I saw anything but the approved Gilliam version. I think the "happy ending" version was the first I saw, but it was almost 30 years ago and I have zero recollection.

SPOILER:
I saw the ending where everything is revealed to be in his mind. I fought it was actually very effective. The LCA ending isn't terrible, but like Terry Gilliam says, not all films can have happy endings.

reply

The LCA version is shocking. It is a butchered version of a classic film, and should not be shown except for historical interest.
