Deleted scene, McDonald's.

I just got a VHS of this movie from Ebay last week. When I watched it, I loved it. It brought back so many memories because it was the first time I saw it in almost 20 years. Back then I had a copy taped from TV and I seem to remember a scene that was in the TV version which was not in the VHS release I just got. I remember a scene that took place during the scene when Jonathan was walking through his home town shortly after he arrived in 1927. I remember him walking into a store that had a sign that said "McDonald's" on it. Jonathan thought that it was McDonald's the big restaurant chain but it was really just the store owner's last name. Jonathan went in and said "I would like a quarter pounder". The store owner said "A quarter pound of what?" Jonathan said "A Hamburger." The store owner said "We don't sell hamburgers here." Johathan said "This is McDonald's, isn't it?" I might not be perfectly accurate with the dialogue cause I am tracing back 20 year old memories but I do remember that scene. I guess there was an alternate version because this movie did have an alternate title "The Time Flyer."

I haven't seen this movie but there is the general point about raised about how these production companies constantly mess around with the original copy instead of leaving whatever the film is to stand by itself as a test of it's own character. Instead there are people in the studios constantly "adjusting" films to what they consider to be the tastes of the audiences of today.

This is a nasty form of censorship and is reminds me of the Orwellian "memory hole" syndrome where "history" is constantly brought "up to date" by wiping out what has become "inconvenient" and in some cases downright delegitimising of and to the powers that rule over us by selecting the messages we can still access independent of our own memories but by not having these "independent" sources of reference outside our own memories we can begin to be tentative and doubt our that we saw and heard what we did in fact see and hear.

It's all appears to be geared to mind control stuff and is nasty trend normally geared to what is called Political Correctness but in the case quoted above they still can't resist messing around and cutting out a typical "time traveller" scene.

You are correct, the McDonald's scene was on the TV movie shown as "Time Flyer." It was one of the funniest moments in the movie. I have a TV rip copy of "Time Flyer," but it is of poor quality. I'm working on transferring it to DVD, and editing out the commercials. I can't understand why Disney doesn't release this on DVD. It is a wonderful family movie, with themes of loyalty, compassion, difficult choices, and pure love. Guess there isn't enough profanity, sex, violence, or greed to be found in this movie for it to be profitable.

The scene ended when "McDonald" said all he had for kids was chewing gum. The kid asked if he had "sugar-free?" Mac's like "Huh?" "It's gum without sugar."
Mac and Mrs. Mac crack up laughing saying that's only for fat people.

Mom taped that show when it first aired, and it might still be in her house SOMEWHERE. I BELIEVE this movie aired as part of the World of Disney ("Disneyland" on IMDb)

My dad used to rent this movie from our local free library, I haven't seen it in about 15 years or so. We would watch it probably twice a week. I don't remember anything about the story except the basics. I hope to see it again soon.

I have an original VHS tape. I got it a few years ago- it's a professional copy from an old video store or something, with the original case. My kids love it- so do I.
