is this the one with a sledgehammer in the basement?

I remember that from the horror flicks of the 80's. I remember in the beginning there was a murder with a sledgehammer....this looks familiar.

I had something more clever, but they booed me off stage

I'm not sure if this is the scene you're referring to, but.. there is a scene in the opening of the movie where the mother is coming home from work and it's her son's 5th birthday.. she goes through the house looking for the kids and the sitter.. she finds them in the family room.. the sitter is sitting on the couch with the two girls sitting on either side of her resting their heads on her shoulders.. the boy is laying on the floor.. when the mother gets all the way in the room she soon realizes that they have all been blugeoned to death with a sledgehammer. . the father had done it...

is that what you were remembering??

to this day i have had that particular scene burned into my memory...

BTW.. is your 'sig' from Buffy the Vampire Slayer?? I love that show!!!!

There is another movie very similar to Blackout. It's older and very well done. I can't think of the title, actors, just the plot. If anyone has seen this other similar movie, please reply. The entire family burned, even dad. He had some plastic surgery, looked entirely different and found another family to murder.

i remember seeing that scene with the mother and children on the couch dead after being beaten with the sledgehammer. it was so freaky and disturbing.
it still scares me to this day.

Thank goodness Richard Widmark was a persistant pursuing detective. Whew!

The mother and three kids were killed with a baseball bat and discovered by a neighbor.
This was a particularly good HBO film with Richard Widmark... just found it in a carton of old video tapes I had... still holds up well.

I believe it was the housekeeper who discovered the murdered family.

I might have had a few details off....it's been 20 some years since I've seen it. Desperately want to watch it again!

Yay me. Just received my VHS of this movie via Amazon. I'm about to rip off a childhood bandaid. Hope I don't create new wounds.
