This or Return to Oz?

Which 1985 Disney fantasy epic is more darker?

I suppose The Black Cauldron. Then again I haven't seen Return to Oz in forever and looking back, I believe I've only seen parts of it.

Return to Oz. The scene of the headless witch has creeped out countless children.

I love both films. But this is something I think entirely depends on the viewer. Take Return to Oz for example. My mother got nightmares over the wheelers, but I think they're hilarious. I guess my personal thoughts are that both films are equally dark, but that's just me.

Return to Oz is darker. With Black Cauldron, all of the really dark scenes are contained within two ten-minute sections, whereas dark scenes proliferate all the way through Return to Oz.
