Major plot hole at the end (spoilers)

The two skiers are sent down the mountain with at least 5 seconds between.
However at the end of the race, Roy Stalin is no more than half a second behind Lane Myers, making him the winner by 4½ seconds.

reply

Totally...I never got how Lane was considered the winner.

reply

I'm guessing a handicap system since Roy was on an "official" ski team.

reply

Maybe because he skied the whole thing with only one ski? And because, y'know, it's just a movie? Lol

reply

Or it could be because races are won by who crosses the finish line first.

reply

I always thought that too. The way it was set up they were timing their runs. The one guy tells Lane to go and clicks the timer, then 5 seconds later tells Stalin to go, so yes, TECHNICALLY, Stalin won the race.

reply

I did notice that. I wondered if Stalin was meant to set off at the same time as Lane but just hesitated a few seconds, and so the race was supposed to be in simultaneous time and it was first to the finishing line.

reply

Yeah I've come here to try and find the answer to this myself. It doesn't make sense that he started later, yet everyone goes by who crosses the line first.
The only thing I can think of is the guy with the timer gave him a head start because he only has one ski. But there's no explanation in the movie, so it's poor direction to be honest. The only thing that bugs me about this movie.

Now that you mention it, the two girls in the Lamborghini didn't win the Cannonball Run for the same reason. They punched time tickets at the start.
