Question on the pig burger, Lane getting fired, and the date there later

This didn't quite add up to me. Lane briefly has the Pig Burger job, gets fired, and is presumably on the big fat owners' bad side thereafter. So later in the movie, presumably during evening hours when most places would be open, Lane is still able to go into the restaurant alone, without the owner or anyone else there for the dinner and saxophone date?

Seems out of order to me. If he got fired AFTER the date, that would make more sense.

It's already cited as a goof.

I always assumed that he had kept the key after getting fired. I've had jobs that I've quit but for one reason or another still had my key to the building.

I worked at a gas station and I was fired. The owner (come to think of it, he was a fat *beep* too) and he asked for the key back which I didn't have. I came back later to turn it in. I should have copied it and handed it out to friends: "here, want some free gas?"
