Cusack was a dick

Was always a big fan of this movie. Its not perfect but was different than most teen comedies. Not sure what cusack has up his ass in regard to this film but he should embrace it. Its not like the script was changed from what he signed onto. Cusack seems to want to be a serious actor which is fine but that doesnt mean comedy or in Those case dark comedy isnt good

I was really shocked at the trivia that stated he walked out of the screening, cussed out the director & openly hated the movie! The movie had a slapstick comedy feel to it, but its SOOOO good and hilarious. Just rewatched it this morning and found myself laughing all over again!

Cusack has a bug up his arse!

I'm still not sure why he hates this movie. he has made far worse movies. Cusack is a pretty weird dude. he reminds me of Bill Murray. Both were at their best doing comedy yet they want to be recognized as serious actors. I can understand that but they are also grumpy people and tough to get along with on set

It's a funny irony that the movie he hates the most keeps popping up as one of his best cult classics. I'm pretty sure he still wants "Say Anything" to be his Magnum Opus of teen youth movies but "Better Off Dead" still holds the mantle.

As for wanting to taken as a serious actor, unfortunately all of his serious movie roles have been straight to cable affairs these past dozen+ years it seems.

This movie rocks, better then hot pursuit

Didn't know he hated this but those scenes... He had to know what kind of movie they were making. Thats not editing. That dialog and humor is blatant.

The way I read it he is a dick on and off the screen

I also heard he's a tool.

I get that marginal actors try to distance themselves from the early stuff that gave them a job, money, and a resume for the next film, but other actors have appeared in garbage early in their careers and went on to greatness.

Tom Hanks went from this kind of stuff to being one of the greatest American actors of all time (and I heard he can be a tool as well, but this isn't about personality).

As for this film, it is what it is, and I still find a lot of it funny. What I don't find is Cusak to be anything more than an average actor - certainly nowhere near Hanks level.
