Not bad.....ending... *SPOILERS*

*SPOILERS* FOR MOVIE/BOOK

I definitely liked the way they ended the original better, although this ending is more faithful to the book. I thought this actress did a rather good job as Rachel (originally Rhoda) Penmark.
She gave me chills with her facial expressions, just as Patty McCormack did in the original.
While Patty seemed more innocent/menacing, this actress did well also. I did like also that the mother in this film didn't have her head in the sand nearly as long as the original did, good grief!!!

No. Blair Brown, as the mother didn't have her head in th sand. Most of the time she had it in the WINDOW! I just found this dull.

the original had evil lose and the bad seed die, and this one had the girl live. that alone makes the original BETTER.

Even in the original the actual ending they would have used(had it not been for the hayes code about not letting evil win) would have been with Rhoda surviving and the mother dying. That is how the book and play ended. Actually... not sure if its true but on the bad seed 1956 imdb message board someone said that with the original movie they actually had filmed three endings but chose the one with Rhoda getting struck by lightening. My guess is one of the other endings they filmed was Rhoda surviving and mom dying but I wonder what the other alternative ending would have been??

There's one aspect from the ending of the 1956 film I wish they would've kept. That's the part where Rhoda says she wants to take Monica Breedlove's bird when she dies hinting about what her plans for the future are. She did stare at the necklace Mrs. Breedlove was wearing in this version and asked if she could visit her later on right afterwards, but for all we know she could've planned to steal it like she did with the money. I think it's scarier to know that Rhoda/Rachel had intended for her to die.

I think we can assume she meant to kill aunt monica. Right after she puts her arms around Monica's neck her smile fades to a serious look and the music goes kind of creepy as she touches the necklace. Also there is something kind of creepy and foretelling in the first scene with monica and Rachael. Aunt monica says she has not taken the necklace off in five years and that Emory says it holds her head on. Lol
