Probably a tragedy. Crazy old farmer comes to town talking about the alien that landed in his barn. The whole family knows what they saw and also share the story. Ostracized by the town. Descent into drug abuse and prostitution.

So George McFly becomes a successful hip guy and writes books and novels, Peabody and family turn into drug users and prostitutes...
How did you figure?
I say Peabody keeps going with his lone pine mall idea galvanized by the visit, and his son and daughter become astronomers or astronauts because of their newfound interest in alien lifeforms.
That's the story of your movie.
Your idea is much more pleasant and optimistic than mine, and definitely a valid possibility.
I just tend to lean toward comic tragedy in my fantasies.

There was nothing comic about that tragedy.
I believe that they simply decided to never tell anybody about their "encounter" and were just fine.
