yeah , in which case it cant make any sense , i'm going to go ahead and say it: "plothole" , ive never used the word before so i must be allowed 1? Apart from it has zero effect on the plot - but it is an impossibility ...

Once, his 1984 self, just prior to Marty arriving and yet he 'spoke' to Marty.
The second time future Doc phoned Marty and recorded his conversation.
Back to step one.
This wades deep into bootstrap paradox waters but hey, that's what this movie series revels in.
