It's a great movie

I used to watch it all the time when I was little and I still love it. I'm glad that I own it on VHS because I can not find it no where else. It's comes no where near Jurassic Park, but yet it still has that magic in it. It's a simple pleasure and a great adventure. I recommend it for all dinosaur lovers!

P.S. Do you think that there should be a sequel? Or a remake? That would be cool!

I used to love this movie-I outgrew it quite a few years ago, but I still have it taped from when they ran it late several years ago, on a tape with A Goofy Movie and The Land Before Time.

Sequel..no. I think that would destroy what this movie had. No remake, either. I think it's good as is, mostly because remakes tend to lose, not gain, quality the original already had.

Thankfully, I still knew the name from when I saw it all those years ago, so I didn't have to search very hard for it. Otherwise, trust me, I never would have found it...

If it was my blood, Mommy, would you care a little more?

It's a childhood classic of mine, so moving. Jerry Goldsmith's score is GREAT.

oh, I *adored* this movie. Haven't seen it since, but I remember thinking that, omg, that was SUCH a good movie...

I only remember the plot vaguely; but I know that I cried so hard when the mom dinosaur found the baby again I thought my lungs would explode (i was about six or seven years old at the time).

I also remember the dinosaur effects being really cool, and I was sure if I watched it now I'd be like, what the hell is with the clay dinosaurs? You know how these things never compare with our memories. But some people say it still isn't that bad. Now I'm definitely going to have to rent it and watch it again.

I watched this movie a few times when I was about 5 or so, almost 20 years ago, totally forgot what it was called, forgot it existed for years, then I remember it, the baby brontosaurus. I googled that and here I am, hurray!

reply

Hehe...

The only thing preventing my suspension of disbelief is that the dinosaur is a "Brontosaurus." Because as it turns out (to make a long story short), Brontosaurus never actually existed. Rather, paleontologists put a Camarosaurus skull (a sauropod, and therefore fairly similar in body design to a "Brontosaurus" or a Diplodocus) on the skeleton of another animal, and called the resulting animal a Brontosaurus. Later, the mistake was discovered and they realized that the skull on the skeleton was indeed a mismatched skull. Years later, the body of the "Brontosaurus" was eventually fitted with a proper skull, and renamed Apatosaurus. The skull on the Apatosaurus body is fairly different as it is more elliptically shaped rather than the box-like Camarosaurus skull. If there are any paleontologists on the imdb that can fill in any holes or correct me on anything.... feel free, as what I have just spouted is from the depths of my memory and ever so slightly foggy. Then again, would any self respecting paleontolgist watch this film anyway????
Regardless, I repeatedly rented this movie as a kid, and it would be worth the few bucks to pick it up again and watch it even for the nostalgia value.

I saw this movie several times when I was young and barely remembered it at all. I did, however, remember the "Baby" part of the title and one day a month or two ago (and I honestly don't remember why I did this) I searched for info on this movie online.

Today, I looked all over the city to try and buy it, but when I couldn't find it (I knew I wouldn't, I can't find any movies I like in this tiny town...I miss living in the big city) I dropped by Blockbuster and to my surprise they had it on DVD (I knew there was a DVD release, I just didnt expect the movie to be considered worth having on DVD in the local rental store in a city as small as this one). I was quite happy with my find and rented and watched it today.

Being a huge Godzilla fan, the special effects did not bother me (there is much more charm that comes from stiff costumes/animatronics than comes from any CGI character). I was extremely impressed by the dinosaurs actually. I usually can tell how effects are done when I watch a movie but I have no idea how they made it walk (as the shape does not seem to allow for it to be suitmation...it may be though). In fact, if I were giving out special effects awards for most realistic non-CGI movie monster/dinosaur I'd give it to this movie just for the one shot where the mom falls over after being tranquilized...its the only time I have seen that I can say that a movie monster/dinosaur looked completely flawless (including CGI creatures).

So many great memories came back while I watched this highly underrated movie. I am rather surprised that people do not like it, but that's probably just modern Hollywood movie snobs who thrive of "realistic CGI." My only problem with the movie (and I believe it is also something that jars most viewers) was the uneven writing as sometimes the movie seemed to be very adult (the almost sex scene) and other times very childish (Baby playing with George in the water). However, I still truly loved watching this movie...even after all these years. I hope not to lose track of it ever again.

It’s ironic that in this age of “tolerance” we are the most afraid of offending people.
