Blu-Ray quality

I saw that this movie was on Blu and for some very cheap prices at places like Amazon and Wal-Mart among others. I'd grab it in a second blindly if I didn't already have the DVD. It's not having the DVD that keeps me from getting, it's the fact that the DVD copy is one of the worst DVD's I have as far as picture quality. The copy I have is one I bought from Best Buy or Wal-Mart so it wasn'y some sort of bootleg. The film had actual cigarette burns in it throughout the film. I wouldn't mind if I was watching it at the theater where that could be expected. I don't expect that on my TV. The last time I watched it was on a standard TV so I can't imagine how bad the DVD would look now on an HD.

That brings me to the Blu-Ray. If the quality is no better than the DVD, then there isn't much point in buying the Blu especially if I'm still gonna have to look at pops and cracles throughout the film. Anyone buy the Blu-Ray?

It's an incredible transfer, especially considering the obscurity of the film.

Can someone tell me the release date of the Blu-Ray version?

I would second this - I watched it last night and was amazed at the quality of the transfer. I wasn't too hopeful during the opening credits but things soon settled down. Strong colours and a sharp image. The only place where things suffer is in process and optical shots but there aren't that many so it isn't too distracting.

The audio was multi channel and had some strong bass when needed as well a lot of rear speaker support.

Definitely worth the upgrade in my opinion.

I never had a VHS or DVD copy of this movie. In fact, it had been years since I last saw this feature, until I recently bought the blu-ray at a local Fry's for $3 dollars. I concur with what others have said. The quality is outstanding. So much so, that I actually enjoyed the film! The dino effects (pre-CGI) weren't bad at all. And I tend to forget that Sean Young was quite the babe back in the day (before she took on this bad girl from Hollywood image).
