The garden

Does anyone know where this was filmed and have information about the garden they used. Was it a private garden or a well-known one which is open to the public? Or was it a mix of a few different gardens?

I believe it was filmed in England. The copy of this film is available on http://klilien.tripod.com

The garden is in Gloucestershire in England and was owned by Henry Cook. Cook had been a British officer or something in India in the late 1800s, and when he returned to England he created his Indian-inspired garden. Over the years after his death the non-formal part of the garden had become completely overgrown but was eventually rediscovered. However, for the production of this movie a lot had to be re-created to make the garden more like it was in Cook's time. Those Victorian 'exotic gardens' were a LOT of work to keep up, much more so than we see in this movie. For instance, it took several men as well as a team of horses to move the banana plants back and forth between the greenhouse and garden. I think I read somewhere recently that it is open to the public but, again, it is only a shadow of what it was in 1900.

Thanks Deanslgr, it's nice to get an answer, even if it's almost 10 years after I asked the question :-)
