Favorite part

I know this is a bad movie, but I loved it as a kid. My favorite part of the story was the one where Gawain rescues a woman who looks like a pig from an evil castle. He brings her back to Camelot after promising to marry her in exchange for her help in their escape.

After much difficulty he decides to honor his proposal and the two are soon wed. After they are declared man and wife, Gawain struggles to kiss the woman, her large snout in the way. However, he kisses her and she is transformed into a beautiful woman. She tells her new husband that she had been under a curse and that it took a handsome man's kiss to break it. Gawain is thrilled.

However, on their wedding night, the woman informs Gawain that the curse is not yet broken. That he must choose whether to have her "fair by day and foul at night, or foul by day and fair at night."

Gawain struggles but ultimately tells her that she must make the choice for herself. This was the right answer to give and the woman tells Gawain that the curse is truly broken.

This was the best part of the movie..

YES! I remember that part. I saw this when I very young and remember seeing that part but I always thought it was from the movie Willow http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096446/. But then years later I saw Willow again and found out it wasnt that movie. I've been trying for years to find this movie and you have just confirmed it for me - cheers!

Is this also the movie where two guys hug - they might be friends or brothers - but then one stabs the other in the neck with a small knife?

I also remember some knights trying to walk through some valley but are blocked by a magic force field???

I have inside me blood of kings - YEAH!

Yes; this was my favorite part with Gawain and the Lady Ragnal.

Rupert Everett was a very skinny Lancelot, which made it hard to see him as a fighter knight Lancelot.

For all the things wrong with this movie, Gawain and Ragnell is its redeeming side story. While Sir Gawain appears in many Arthurian movies, I'm not aware of any that include even a mention of Lady Ragnell - if anyone does know of another movie or show that does, I'd like to know.

Since this movie doesn't seem to be available I need to rely on memory, and from recall I don't believe they stuck to the original tales, but at least they did a good job with the parts they did include - Ragnell's curse, Gawain's choice to let her choose. I don't remember it including the secret answer she gave to King Arthur to save his life.

The actress also did a good job. The Lady Ragnell, despite the curse, maintained her dignity. If the movie had focused on King Arthur, Sir Gawain and Lady Ragnell, and told the whole story, it would have been a far better show.
