Seriously ... I think Anne and Pollyanna would've thrown down
So, I'm watching my "Pollyanna" DVD the other night. If you've seen the film (and know the book(s) on which it was based) then you already know that there are many similarities between Pollyanna and Anne: Both girls are orphans, both go to live with older, wealthier (in Pollyanna's case extremely wealthy) no-nonsense people, both girls are met with a rather cold reception once they begin their new life, both girls strive for affection from the beginning (Pollyanna wants to kiss Aunt Polly goodnight; Anne wants to call Marilla "Aunt Marilla"), both girls encounter a caring, loving and older male figure right from the beginning (Doc Chilton for Pollyanna, Matthew for Anne), both girls are given and/or made new clothes for their new life, both girls try to see the good in everyone, both girls usually have a cheery, sunny and optimistic disposition, both aren't afraid of speaking their minds, both run into several crotchety people who they wind up winning over, etc., etc.
However, I think that in the brains department, Anne would win hands down. Of the two, Anne seems to be more impatient and I think that Pollyanna's "Glad Game" would've grown old after awhile.
It was just fun to imagine what would go on should these two fictional characters should ever meet up one day.
"FRA-GEE-LAY. That must be Italian!"
"I think that says 'fragile', honey."
