for the first time since I was about 8 .. It was on public televison..And it ended with Gilbert walking Anne back to Green Gables after he gave her his job at the school.. For some reason I don't remember it ending this way even though the last time I saw this was like 17 years ago! Is there a part of the series they didnt show?

How do you remember it ending?

It's possible that you watched the original Anne and the sequel (sometimes called 'Anne of Avonlea' / 'Anne of Green Gables: the Sequel') back-to-back, which is how TV stations often show it.
