Matthew

Matthew was just so lovely and the scene where he dies makes me cry every time!

Me, too.

"FRA-GEE-LAY. That must be Italian!"
"I think that says 'fragile', honey."

I also cried when he bought her the dress and she shows it to him out in the barn. Such a sweet moment.
I was so sad when he died. I cried too!

It’s good to dream

Oh yes, the one with "puff sleeves" - really touching moment. Also when he struggles upstairs for the first time in years to persuade her to apologise, because he doesn't want her to be sent back to the orphanage.

I did as well... and this is OT from Matthew Cuthbert, but I love your signature line. I watch that movie EVERY December - it's tradition! I can't even look at the word "fragile" without hearing Darren McGavin say that line!

Matthew is the sweetest person in the book and movie and I always do tear up when he dies. "All I wanted was my little girl" that is about when I start to sob.

He's such a nice character. I always cry when he dies, be it book or film... reminds me of my late granddad so much.

Starry Vere, God bless you!

He never said that. He said, "I only wanted you from the first day. Don't ever change. I love my little girl. I'm so proud of my little girl."

Shoot, i am tearing up just thinking about that scene...

I'm jumpier than a virgin at a prison rodeo!

No joke, I think Matthew Cuthbert to be the epitome of cool.

I always tear up at Matthew's death. It's so sad and he loved Anne so much.

Matthew reminds me so much of my daddy (I'm 38 and yes, I still call him daddy). Soft spoken, shy, wise and kind; and I still cry when I see this film. I first saw it when I was about 14 or 15.

Oh my, I just re-read the book and now I'm watching the movie. I think everyone absolutely loved Matthew; he was so incredibly sweet on paper and the actor who plays him in the movie is very similar to how I imagined him.
