While at Queens, what did Anne mean when asking how the first years were doing. What are first years

Anne was doing the entire program in one year, while the snotty girl (I believe it was Josie) was taking 2 years to complete the teaching program. I think that she was referring to that. fact

Here in Canada, we refer to classes at college & university (and some secondary schools) by "years" rather than calling students freshmen (1st years), sophomore (2nd year), juniors (3rd years), seniors, etc. Many post secondary courses of study only go 3 years.
