Anne 'Spelled with an E'!
i very much agree with Anne Shirley on this one, I hate the Ann spelling so plain and abrupt. When you add the E the name becomes classic, elegant makes a statement.. More attractive as well.

I completely agree with you. In fact, whenever I see someone spell their name A-N-N I just cringe and think "Print out 'A-n-n' and it looks absolutely dreadful, but Anne with an "e" is quite distinguished."
For that matter, (from Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel) whenever I see someone spell their name "Catherine" I think, "Katherine with a 'K' is so much more alluring than Catherine with a 'C.' A 'C' always looks so smug."

It's funny that you reference "Katherine." That's my name and I'm so happy it's spelled the way it is. "Catherine" looks so severe. So does "Ann." When I picture an "Ann," I get the picture that she is fairly abrasive.
"All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust."
Now that you mention it, so do I.
As Anne says "I read in a book once that a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet, but I never believed it. Why, a rose wouldn't smell just as sweet if it were a thistle."

My name's Catherine and I like it with a C. No offense, but I think the K spelling looks boring. It's interesting the quirks human beings have. :).
shareCompletely agree! I hate Ann spelled without an "E," it just looks awful. "Anne," however, is a lovely name.
Actually, my favorite spellings of "Katherine" are Katharine and Catherine. I don't like Katherine and hate Kathryn.

I honestly don't care how you spell Ann. I like it both ways. But I completely feel her pain when people spell her name wrong. People are constantly spelling my name Mary when it is, in fact, Mari. And I react just as she does when someone spells it wrong.
shareThis is not a post about the spelling of "Anne," but just how I can relate to her being picky about the spelling of a name. My middle name is Michele with only one "L" and I just don't think it looks as distinguished as Michelle with 2 "L's." I asked my mom why she spelled it with only one "L" b/c honestly, I don't think I've seen anyone else spell it with only one "L." My mom said that she did it that way b/c my name was long enough. Really, Mom? Angela Michele? What's one more "L?"

Whenever I'm taking down someone's name and it happens to be Ann/e, I always ask, "Isss that 'Ann' with an 'e'?"!! Good heavens, I know I totally messed up all the quotation marks there.
I think "Anne" is more attractive than "Ann".

Aaaaand... cut to tight closeup of the Anne's here adding an E to their name...
What I can't get over is that Megan Follows had a daughter and named her Lyla Ann...
but her decision to call her Ann had nothing to do with Anne of Green Gables.
That's sad!
Of course there's an "Ann" in her daughter's name x) I agree that Anne with an "e" looks much more distinguished, but, at the same time...
Lyla Anne
Lyla Ann
Somehow, I don't think Anne with an "e" looks right with the first name Lyla... Or, at least, not at first glance. I guess it really just depends on the full name. Like with the example Angela Michele above. At first glance, I thought the matching single "l's" was a nice touch.
Why did I write? Because I found life unsatisfactory.

I so agree with you and Anne, my middle name is Ann without the "E" and when i read the books I so agreed with her that from that day onwards I know always go by Anne.
shareOuch! My name is Ann (no e!) and this thread cracked me up. When I was a kid and discovered the Anne of Green Gables books, I wanted to add an E to my name. Now that I'm an adult, I'm content with my name the way it is. Also, I was named after a beloved family member who died while my mother was pregnant with me, so I enjoy the significance of that.
But some of the comments made me laugh. Abrasive? ME? Well, maybe a little. ;)

The past is now part of my future; the present is well out of hand.
I had to smile when I looked on IMDb to see what Ms. Follows has done lately...playing none other than Queen "C"atherine on REIGN!
I couldn't help but think back to Anne's "Catherine with a "C""..." line!
