Whatever the case, sounds like they're going to try to modernize the themes which will ruin what makes it appealing. We've got enough problems in the world today and enough dark TV shows and movies. What we need is something with the sweet innocence of childhood and the gilded age of the late 19th century.

From reading this article, it seems to be agenda driven and sociopolitical as opposed to telling a good story and being faithful to the books.
