Anne's Parents.. both with no relatives living...

I know our Anne is a work of fiction, but didn't anyone else ever think that it was unlikely and odd that both of Anne's parents had no relatives living when they were pretty young themselves when they married and had her??

reply

18 or19-people married young in the day. They were not from area- not uncommon for deaths, as they died from fever

I know your right.. but it does seem odd that there wasn't anyone, like a distant cousin once removed or an aunt or something.. it is just me.. it would have been cool if in one of the books one of Anne's distant relatives or something would have shown up...

Maybe her parents were orphans too. With lethal diseases being so common back then, it might not be as rare as we think for a person to have no living family.

Orphanages were a fairly common thing in the 19th century so I don't think it's all that much of a stretch to believe that Anne would be in one. Maybe she had living relatives but they lived far away or it was unrealistic for her to be able to travel to them. Or they may not have the room, the money or the wherewithal to take her in.
