Films like After Hours

The feeling and atmosphere of the following films are similar to me, how would you describe the aesthetic and atmosphere of the films listed, and can anyone add to this list? (especially but not limited to nocturnal films set in 80s manhattan)

Liquid Sky

Escape from New York

Rock N Rule

After Hours

Blade Runner

Akira

Heavy Metal

Here's one that just came to mind:

Living In Oblivion -- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113677/

Films like After Hours: Punch Drunk Love and Something Wild

Funny you say that. I watched this for the first time last night and it reminded me a lot of PDL, one of my favorite romantic comedies. Another film with a normal guy going through a series of bizzare experiences.

Add:

Eyes Wide Shut

OMG! I didnt think anybody still remembered that awful movie!

Dark City.

U-turn by Oliver Stone

After Midnight (not just because of the title, one of the stories resembles After Hours)

Vamp

Last Mile (disappointing ending though)

House of Wax (because people get lost in a small town that is kind of goofy and most of the action takes place in one night)

Spirited Away

I love After Hours and live near the neighborhood where this was shot. I feel the same mood (until the end) is captured in Miracle Mile w/ Anthony Edwards. A totally underrated film.

They didn't know how to give Miracle Mile a better ending.

I just realized something; all these great 'night' movies as I call them (miracle mile, into the night, eyes wide shut, after hours) center on the hero's infatuation with a woman.

MM-Julie peters
ews-mandy/and mysterious woman
after hours- rosanna's character
into the night- michelle's character

hey I even enjoyed 'the night before'

This movie always reminded me of Buffet Froid (in tone anyway)

How funny! I just caught this movie on Cable, and the whole time I kept thinking of Miracle Mile.

Judgement Night is another one (though it's Chicago in the 90's). Oh and Adventures in Babysitting.

I absolutely love Miracle Mile and I'm surprised no one else mentioned it.
Another good one is The Warriors directed by Walter Hill. Definitely a "night movie," as another post puts it.

They're not terribly similar at all, but I gotta mention Nic Cage in "Vampire's Kiss" - another wildly original (and how!) script by Joseph Minion. They share a creepy misture of crackpot farcical humour, unsettling paranoia and some nice NYC atmosphere. Seriously one of my dozen-odd favourite films of the '80s, even tho it's generally panned. (Love to imagine Scorsese directing THAT one!)

Here's a good one:
