Missing Scene? (Spoiler)

I love "After Hours" (1985). In fact, I worked on Hudson Street, up the block from Spring Street in SoHo, for several years. The neighborhood is nothing like it was when "After Hours" was filmed with graffiti, garbage everywhere, and dark streets.

Anyway...

Does anyone think there maybe a missing scene? I'm referring to when Paul is in Marcy's apartment. He demands the paperweights he came for. Then, we hear Marcy crying, and Paul running down the stairs and trying to take the subway home.

What exactly caused Marcy to cry (and then commit suicide) and Paul abruptly leave?

I know Scorsese had about 45 minutes of extra footage, but not all of it are in the "deleted scenes" section (right word?) on the DVD I have.

Any thoughts? (I'll probably listen to the DVD commentary soon.)

THERES A DVD COMMENTARY???

I think they could tell things weren't working out between them and that's why they acted this way. Marcy seemed emotionally unstable, maybe as a consequence or her rape. It did seem a bit abrupt and unexplained, so maybe the extra footage would have made it clearer.

Don't be afraid to dream bigger :)

I'm guessing Marcy cried to Kiki because paul was being rude and eventually committed suicide after realising he has fled. she was unstable and this was just probably one of the many bad things she's gone through at those recent times.

Just watched this for the first time. She has books about handling burns, burn creme, a candle in her hand with a giant flame and a tattoo which he mistakes for some kind of scaring when he catches a glimpse of it. Paul thought she was going to lure him into some kind of kinky sex act. So he acts outraged at her to send her flying out of the room so he can sneak out. At least that was my interpretation. I may be wrong.

Replying four years later... Anyway. They did smoke that joint that was supposed to be Colombian but Paul insisted was something else, maybe not even marijuana. Could it have been something stronger that made him act out?
