Why is there a 'Dracula' character in this?

Curious credits. In a supposedly realistic semi-fiction about the early space program there is a character named Dracula, and not a single character with the real-life name of an astronaut.

Funny thing. David Dukes who plays Leopold Strabismus, played Dracula on Broadway in NYC in 1978.

He was the NASA engineer who operated the simulator that the astronauts used for training to handle emergency situations. He was nicknamed "Dracula", possibly because of his appearance; or maybe because he was good at giving them challenging problems that often "killed" them.
