why didn't Julie Walters come back for 2nd and 3rd series?

I mean LULU and Alison Steadman look nothing like Julie Walters and that always bugged me, yes would of liked Julie Walters to be in all 3 series for continuity purposes but they could of at least of had someone that looked like or even have had the same features like Julie Walters hair and eye colour,height

It was a shame as she was the best of the actresses cast as Pauline, but looking at her credits in 87 when the sequel came out she was pretty busy, with two movies and the start of Acorn Antiques. Probably didn't have the time to film Adrian Mole on top of it. Ironically she appeared in an episode of Theatre Night in 1987 as a character called Lulu, Lulu of course being the person who replaced her as Pauline Mole.
