Robotech Live action TV show

Who would like to see Robotech turned into a live action TV show where they could do a better job at telling the story. As I see it when they do the movie it wouldn't even cover 1-2 episodes for a 2 hour movie, they need to turn to tv and then they could continue on from week to week and get everything in.

What do you guys think. Go to TV or continue with the movie?

reply

Agreed the budget might not be as big but as long as they dont mess it up they will have basically unlimited time to tell the story.

If that would happen don't expect to have any story or mecha resembling Macross.

A movie just can't do justice to a long epic series like this. I would love to see a Robotech TV show similar to what they did with Battlestar Galactica.

Please?

I love Robotech/Macross too. But the last thing any of us wants is for Robotech to become anything like that crappy remake of Battlestar Galactica? It doesn't need to be a; dreary, miserable, ultra gritty but crappy, live-action anime with characters that are poor imitations of what came before.

WITH NEEDLESS/POINTLESS SEX CHANGES TO THE ORIGINAL MAIN CHARACTERS!!!

You really looking for the machine/mechas to be replaced by skinjobs? I think not!

If anything, a live action series needs to take examples from great sci-fi's like Dr Who, Outer Limits or Babylon 5!

Unless its done like that stick to the movies. Cos at least they'd be done without the threat of cancellation looming if the ratings bounce a little as all ratings do. Film at least has a start middle and end in sight. And a trilogy of 3 hour Robotech movies would be just dandy and great to see personally! Something i know is shared by Robotech fans on here.

A series today would suffer from only having so few episodes (13 at best) and lack of any real 'funds' to do it justice. Then there's casting actors who need to fit the parts etc. film might benefit better rather than television where miscasting a role, is a common error.

Yeah, but not too similar. But if you have the same level of drama, it would be AWESOME! I remember ROBOTECH as a kid. Thinking back, it seemed way ahead of it's time.

I am all for a Robotech live action tv show

reply

Why?

All the best ones are coming to an end anyways; 24, Lost, House, possibly Chuck too. And regular TV budgets can't compare to doing Robotech right on the small screen at all.

Don't believe me? Check out the V remake which is currently talking its way through its possibly only season. With its supposely griping storylines of Alien invasion. Sorry but the 1983 version was way superior, its as wallacesawyer has said, its all 'talky talk' that leads absolutely nowhere.

A live action TV series may be the best way to go, given the serialized nature of the Robotech mythology.

The problem with doing a live action adaptation of Robotech is that the story would have to be severely condensed to fit a 2 hour movie, but the cost would be too high for TV. I think The Macross Saga could be turned into a trilogy of films:

Part One: The SDF-1 is transported to the outskirts of the solar system by a space fold and must make its way back to Earth.

Part Two: Unexpected complications arise after the SDF-1 returns to Earth. Micronized Zentraedi spies infiltrate the SDF-1. A climactic battle culminates in the devastation of Earth's surface and the destruction of the Zentraedi leader Dolza's fleet.

Part Three: The crew of the SDF-1 and their Zentraedi allies try to rebuild Earth, but they must deal with a Zentraedi uprising led by Khyron.

Changes would still need to be made to the story to make it fit the shorter running time of a feature film trilogy. For example, an entire episode of the series was spent with Rick and Minmei trapped for days within an uninhabited section of the SDF-1, and while it made for good drama on TV, it would drag down the pace of a feature film. The Minmei/Rick/Lisa love triangle went on a bit too long and would need to be shortened. On the other hand, the development of Max and Miriya's relationship was ridiculously rushed in the original cartoon and could benefit from more time being spent on their courtship.

I agree a movie trilogy makes more sense but if money was not a problem then a game of thrones level quality tv series would be ideal
