Love the main theme to Return to Treasure Island. Anyone know where to find the music on the internet? I'm desperate even willing to buy it if I can't download it!
I'd just like to add that I've always loved the theme, too (and the opening image of the waves crashing on the rocks). I've been a fan of this mini-series since I was quite little. Brian Blessed gives such a charismatic and thorough perfromance as Long John Silver - and the rest of the principles do quite well, too.
OK, so here's what I know, The music from Return To Treasure Island (1986) was released on a vinyl LP and can sometimes be found on eBay. There are also places that sell hard to find soundtracks and the best that I have found is called 'Backtrack', which can be found here:
The LP has the following themes, composed and performed by Terry Oldfield and Tom McGuinness:
Return To Treasure Island (Side A) Isabella (Side B) Island Of Dreams (Side B)
All the themes are recognizible from the series, although the main theme has a slightly different arrangement on the LP than the one actually heard in the series (but every bit as good!).
There is also a TV tie-in book by John Goldsmith, which can sometimes be found, and a couple of magazines with articles from the time (such as the British 'TV Times' and the American 'Disney Magazine').
Return To Treasure Island was shown on The Hallmark UK channel consistently in 2000, but hasn't been repeated since, and I believe it has never been repeated at all on British Terrestrial TV since it originally aired on ITV in July 1986.
The episodes are as follows:
1. The Map 2. Mutiny 3. Island Of The Damned 4. Jamaica 5. Manhunt 6. The Crows Nest 7. Fugitives 8. In Chains 9. Spanish Gold 10. Treasure Island
It seems there were two releases of the series onto VHS, one being from 'Video Gems' (which is now defunct) and I have seen them for sale often on eBay and Amazon Marketplace, although some of the asking prices are a bit hefty!. One also might be an NTSC release, though I am pretty sure the 'Video Gems' version is PAL.
The series was not made by Disney, as some people on the IMDB seem to think, but HTV Wales and Goldcrest (Disney merely bought the rights).
Back to the music - I have uploaded the themes as a Zip file to YouSendit for 7 days and here is the link:
Thank thee,Master. From now on thou shalt be known as the God of all Gods. The perfect human being unmatched by all generations of past, present and future.

i think i am gonna cry this music is ethereal ....
here in this part of the world, someone is soooo grateful :) and happy :)
Hi, I'm from Erez from Israel,. In the late '80 that great tv series was brodcasted at our national channel. Since then, I'm dreaming of earing and getting that beautiful music theme.
I feel not comfortble of asking you agein to put it on. I saw this forum today and I felt so sad that I have missed the uploading of the thame.
I'll be greatful if you will able to upload it agein.
I loved this show! And I loved the opening theme. I just found this topic. Any chance I can get you to post the music yet again? *bats eyelashes and grovels shamelessly*
I myself have just come across this thread. Any chance you can repost it on that site? If it's reposted again I'll find a more permanent place for the file on the web and post it here for all.
Ok I had felt kinda bad about making these themes permenantly available (copyright/moral issues etc).
I suppose, though, that each of us would have bought them if possible (I indeed did, but second hand, so no profit was lost to the artist). To my knowledge, apart from the out-of-print vinyl single, these themes are not available (or included on any of Terry Oldfield's CDs).
I have no luck.. my post was published here as third in may 2006.. till now I didn't find that OST or even the theme from credits. The links above are inactual. Could I ask you crusoe89 for a link (it can be boring to send it so regularly..) or contact to my e-mail : bogumio(at)interia.pl. I'll be very, very grateful..
I don't have anywhere to host the themes, so I can't provide a permanent link. The only way I know to share them is to upload to YouSendIt, which is only active for 7 days. I tried Megaupload and Rapidshare, but something seemed to go wrong with them.
Anyway, I've uploaded the file to YouSendIt again and here's the link:
Thank YOU so much!!! It's so unique themes, that I propably couldn't find it anywhere else. But if somehow I do find some other songs or in better quality, obviously I get to know. So far it's like a miracle to listen that themes! Thanks once again crusoe! You're the MAN :)!

I too am a big fan of Return to Treasure Island. Of course, I thought it was a Disney product when I saw it on Disney Channel in 1986. And, I've often wondered if the Disney connection has limited it's American distribution so that the series is so rare, hard to find, and seemingly impossible to get issued on DVD.
Of, course, I'd love to have a copy of that main theme, so if you feel like posting it again.... that'd be quite cool !!
I uploaded the themes to YouSendIt again (I tried Megaupload as the files stay up for longer, but my computer doesn't seem to get on with it...). Hope you get the themes this time!
hello crusoe89 i request you to please upload the soundtracks once again. i've been looking for the series & the main theme for two years. even contacted my local TV channel..i want to remember good old 80's.. Thankyou

Hello crusoe89 Thankyou very much for re-uploading file. i tried like 20 times but Sendspace server always give me an error n i am unable to download file.i tried 3 different download managers but no use. i'll keep trying downloading the file till the link is valid. Thankyou very much again.
:EDIT:
I have managed to extract two sound tracks Isabella & Island Of Dreams from 60% downloaded zip file :) i still havent got main theme "Return to treasure island" Can you please upload only the main theme "Return to treasure island" ?
There are 5 files in the zip - the 3 from the LP and the 2 others being the actual recordings from the progamme as they are slightly different. You have to sign in to YouSendIt but it's free.
Hello crusoe89 Thankyou very much!! i downloaded the themes... a nostalgic day for me... well an out of the topic question..i used to watch a tv series for kids in 80's..i dont remember anything abt it except there were 4 or 5 dawrf men n women...n scenes of people travelling in steam engine train..it was a british series n the opening intro was like an animated drawing like view os sea n mountains with sun gradually setting and a ship sailing towards mountains.. crazy n senseless discription i guess =) do u remember watching a show like this?? anyway thanx alot again for the themes !
