deaddude rc,

No, it is very unlikely that the series will ever be released on DVD.

The show was a mid-season replacement that ran from January to March 1985; it was quickly canceled after only 8 episodes. There would have to be a tremendous demand for this show for it to be released on DVD.

For the sake of argument, let's say there's a Renaissance of interest in Otherworld, and it becomes a viral Internet phenomenon. The studio would have to pay a fortune to license the music for episode 4, "Rock and Roll Suicide." It costs as much to license music for old TV shows as it does for brand new shows. Ep.4 has music from Cheap Trick, the Beatles, David Bowie...

So, unless they strip the music from that episode (or the copyright holders decide to -- ha! -- give it away), or withhold that episode altogether, it's not going to happen.

You can read my much longer post on the subject at:

On the other hand, you can buy bootleg copies on DVD, from when the series aired on the Sci-Fi channel. There are some links sprinkled around this board if you care to pursue them. Caveat emptor!

mongrove_mantichora: It really sucks that one little song stands in the way of a great show being released! But thanks for the insight, dude!

I just remembered this show! wow, it was strange when I saw it when I was a kid.

I suspect it may eventually come out on dvd on demand unless there is licensing issue with the music, etc.
