'Star Trek' Connections

One thing that hit me as I was rewatching this on DVD was the huge connection this -as well as the two sequels- had to the Star Trek franchise.

Jonathan Frakes (Stanley Hazard) played Will Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation

Mitchell Ryan (Tillet Main) played Kyle Riker (Will's father) on ST:TNG.

Jean Simmons (Clarissa Main) played Admiral Nora Satie on ST:TNG.

(Some coincidence as both of Tillet Main's parents did a guest shot on that show.)

David Ogden Stiers (Congressman Sam Greene) played Timicin on ST:TNG.

Kirstie Alley (Virgilia Hazard)had her very first role playing Lieutenant Saavik in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. (And by her own admission was a huge fan of the Original Series when she was a kid.)

Mary Crosby (Isabelle Hazard in Book II) is the aunt of Denise Crosby who played Lieutenant Tasha Yar/Sela on ST:TNG.

John Anderson (William Hazard) played Kevin Uxbridge on ST:TNG

Lee Bergere (Nicholas Fabray) played Abraham Lincoln on Star Trek: The Original Series

Does anyone else have any connections they've noticed?

James Read guest starred as Jaffen for two episodes on Star Trek: Voyager.

"Just remember, you have a friend in the Nightcrawler!"

Robert Guillame (sp?) played Benson Dubouis on the series Benson, which starred two Star Trek alum:

What's his name who played Pete on Benson played Neelix on Voyager.

Rene Abernejois (sp?), who played Clayton Endicott III on Benson played Constable Odo (the Founder/Shapeshifter) on Deep Space 9.

When Madeline moves to Charleston and lives there under a false last name, the name she chooses is Picard.

Genie Francis who played Brett has been married to #1 Jonathan Frakes for just about forever. He seems to mention her at every Trek convention.

Another element is that Frakes was filming this series while Trek was happening. I believe he grew his famous beard for this series and then after much argument was allowed to keep it for Trek. The thing is, that coincided with the time when the Trek show finally got good (season 3). So now people say that's when the show "grew its beard". All because of North and South!

I find it interesting too how North & South is almost like a companion piece to Roots which features LeVar Burton (Geordi).
