Most marriages?

Someone was talking about how it's rare for people to be married 3 times on Home & Away/soaps in general, and I was like, I'm sure Paul's been married at least three times to different people, KK was married at least once other than Susan, and there's got to be others. I think Paul might hold the record? Just of the ones I know/remember there's Steph's mum Lynn, whichever of the Blakeney twins' character he was married to and Gail. I wouldn't be surprised at all if there were more?

Toadie's on two with Sonia and Dee unless there's someone I don't know about with him, Brad's had two and Lauren will be the third, as well.

Also I think a lot of the time the big romantic storylines are close enough to marriage even if the vows don't happen, personally. I mean, is it more of a commitment to stand up and say the words or have a kid, like Mark and Steph?

reply

Paul has been married 5 times.

Terry, Gail, Christina, Lyn and Rebecca.

Toadie also married Steph in a sham wedding to make it more believable that he was the father of her baby (Adam).

Karl and Susan also have a few marriages, to each other a couple of times and Karl to Izzy and Susan to Alex.

In UK soaps we have serial marriers:

Ken Barlow
Ian Beale
Phil Mitchell.

Plus who you've said:

Paul
KK
SK
Brad
Lyn Scully

Was Therese married before Brad, I think she was.

I'd count Steph and Mark as good as married. They've come far in 6 months. I actually kinda like the pairing now.

reply

Yes, I didn't like Mark and Steph together at first. The pairing didn't seem right and I was hoping he'd get back with Paige, but, now I love the pairing and hope they last (he can do better than Paige)

I think in the UK soaps, Steve McDonald. Gail Platt and Tony Hutchinson have beeb married several times. But, it is actually rare for Home and Away I think

reply

Steve McDonald of course!!

reply

I think pairings tend to grow on me as they go along. Sometimes the beginning is weird and not working and then it goes along. Ben and Xanthe were like that for me, too. I think if they put them properly together Paige and Jack will eventually work too - if that's where they go.

reply

All of this is nothing on Ridge and Brooke on B&B haha. I think they got married like 13 times haha. That show is bonkers! God it makes me laugh and God I loved Stephanie. (I recorded one of the scenes with Brooke and Stephanie getting into one of their big arguments and I was on a forum for the actor who played Stephanie and her friend was posting there. She was like, send me the tape and I'll pass it onto her, like whoa. She ended up telling me, Susan pulled up in her big truck and she passed her a couple things from the group, including my tape. Susan's sitting there at the laptop listening to me yelling and screaming in Brooke & Stephanie voice haha. She turns to her friend, blushing, and says, "He does that better than me!" I was like whoa. Stephanie was like the grande dame of American soap operas, with Katherine Chancellor on "The young and the restless", the sister show. I also loved Sheila Carter btw, one crazy lady!).

On B&B, you started with Eric and Stephanie, with Brooke's mum Beth hanging around the fringes of their marriage. Ridge is engaged to Caroline and he meets the caterer's daughter, BROOKE. Brooke loses Ridge various times to Caroline and then Taylor (who dies twice and both times comes back from the dead, and both times with the help of a mysterious Moroccan prince.) Brooke ends up marrying Ridge's father Eric, and then his brother Thorne, and his half brother Nick, and then she sleeps with her daughter's husband Deacon, who at one point falls in love with Ridge who at one point was her father. And then Taylor has a romance with Eric, then Thorne, then Nick. She does the whole merry go round thing as well, but she's Saint Taylor?

Brooke and Stephanie were like mortal enemies. I saw them like the Daytime version of Batman versus the Joker, locked in this immortal battle haha. The scene with Steph dying in Brooke's arms for me was just absolutely brilliant. But losing Steph and the original Ridge made me stop watching for good. I still catch it from time to time, but it's just not the same anymore.

reply

You're seriously not wrong, I've watched since original Caroline was on it myself (and she's the one who should've been with Ridge and I will never waver in this opinion). I loved Sheila too.

Oh yes, I can't count them. I hate that Taylor is Saint Taylor and Brooke is easy.

The scene with Stephanie dying was so sad and wonderful.

I still watch daily (and Quinn is almost as amazingly crazy as Sheila), but I agree it's not the same any more. There are some things I still like - Quinn, I'm surprisingly fond of New Ridge but sort of think of him as another character, Eric and Quinn, the whole trans storyline with Maya, several characters I adore and some things I really don't (round 2972 of how bad a person Brooke is for whatever reason they need it to be this month, Liam and Wyatt fighting over women instead of finding their own relationships).

I did love Katherine Kelly Lang's cameo on Neighbours though! :)

reply

ONE thing that would get me to come back and start watching it again, would be MACY. The actress actually said a couple years ago she'd be up for it, and that you could "drive a truck" through the amount of plot holes in her last death (another one who died twice, and also the second time I've mentioned trucks in this thread haha!!). That would be so awesome though.

Also, you probably remember ANGELA FORRESTER then, with the whole impostor storyline in the late 80s. Whatever happened to Deveney Dixon???? I can see her coming back now and trying to hunt down all the Forrester's, a real gritty chilling storyline, where they're really up against the wall and looking down the barrel of 30 years of history. So should happen for their 30th next year, right? It won't though I'm sure haha.

reply

I'd love Macy to come back and it would give Thorne a storyline that isn't about Eric's love life too. Oh I know. Have there been any weird deaths that weren't really deaths on Neighbours? I remember Harold, actually, that was one.

Oh I do remember that, I wonder actually, now you say. It would be very cool to have her back. She still knows so many secrets after all. Maybe there was another that she heard while lying there pretending to be paralysed (I know there was more to it than that but essentially that was what it was). I'm sure it won't, it'll probably be an anniversary for Forrester Creations - which would still be cool.

reply

Yeah they'll probably never go there. They probably don't have a producer like with "Neighbours" where you can tell the guy's a real fan of the show. I don't know though. You just can't take "continuity" for granted. It'd be damn cool though. Another problem would be I think I heard they regretted some of that, which is why you suddenly just don't see her anymore. Don't quote me on that though. Be so cool if it DID happen. I wonder, with all the advancements and everything now, whether she ever would have gotten surgery like she wanted.

Bringing Macy back would BRING Thorne centre stage, which they don't seem to want to do all that much, do they? Can imagine them going off into the sunset together though. After all the *beep* he's been through, Macy comes back and they move over to Italy.

reply

I think so, but also it could be the difference between how it works here and how it works there, too. But true. That might be it, I think I might have heard something like that, too.

Macy was one of my favourite characters. She'd also give Deacon a bit to do as well. That would be nice as well. Then visit for like family weddings and stuff.

reply

I don't understand what they did to Thorne. Back in the 90s, he had some great storylines. There was the whole saga with Macy. And then all the crap that happened with Brooke. Then around 2006 time, they just start phasing him out... Now the poor bastard's lost his whole family, first Darla and now Aly. And I have a feeling they showed him for all of ten minutes when that happened too.

reply

No Terese wasn't married before Brad. Brad was married to first wife Beth (Ned's mum), whilst having an affair with Terese. Terese got pregnant so Beth divorced Brad.

reply

That is a lot of times for Paul. I didn't remember Terry but the rest sound familiar and I remember some of them.

Oh yes! I saw that on here recently.

That is a lot of marriages.

reply

Karl never married Izzy.

reply

Mark's been engaged 3 times (Sienna, Kate, Paige) without actually tying the knot... know he's planning on having a child with a woman he's only been dating 6 months and not even living with.

Both Lou and Harold have been married 3 times I believe.

I don't believe Terese has been married before Brad, at least its never been mentioned if she has.

I'm writing this signature in bold so people know it's a signature

reply

Mark and Steph were living together before, to be fair. She just couldn't handle all three Brennans - can't really blame her, they'd be very full on as a group.

reply

was actully me who started the marriage talk on other boarsm

and i mean relationships that see grow and marriages you see last

like Paul lyn never saw them married

Susan and Alex Alex died minutes later

Brad Beth marriage ended off screen and his Terease marriage was mosly off screen

Toadie and Dee marriage Dee "died" minutes into the marriage and Steph wasn't real marriage

so how many characters have had multiple long lasting marriages have we seen

reply

Really the closest I think we come - and they've been married like three times now and then they split up as well (which meant they would have gone for a fourth wedding!) - is Karl and Susan. Besides that, Toadie and Sonya I would say, and that's only been like three years now, but if you think about it... that's probably pretty long for a soap opera. It's eerie and cool how we're saying Nell grow up and there's no reason we couldn't see her turn into a teenager on film? I've heard they've done that on other shows. Besides that, Harold and Madge, with Harold's disappearance in between, and... I don't even know really. Who else was there? (I'm overlooking someone MAJOR, I know it haha.)

reply

this topic started with Leah.

she was with Vinnie got see them get married and fall in love

than got see her marry Dan and see them married for a while

and now Zac

so how many characters on neighbours get see have few long lasting marriages

reply

Ohhhh I see what you mean. Yes. Definitely Paul. I keep wondering when we're going to get wife number six?

reply

I'd kind of like it to be Therese. Though I'm still open to her and Gary working things out as well.

reply

I remember most of Paul's other marriages being long lasting though? Terry, Gail, Christina and Rebecca (Jane Hall's character?) were all long term and on screen to my knowledge.

So there's Paul at least.

reply

yeah Paul only character I can think of.

even with other soaps (not counting wildly over top shows like B&b and days of our life) only other characters i can think of is on home and away pippa had two marriages and Leah on her 3rd. so rare see soap character having a 2nd or 3rd long lasting marriage. and by long lasting mean at lease 1or two years

reply

There really aren't that many. Though I would count long term relationships that don't end in marriage as well - I can't think of any off the top of my head of course, but there are likely some in there.

reply

It gets pretty colourful actually. Terry was a plumber who worked for Max Ramsay. She'd been married to a guy named Gordon (who was played by Red Symons from Skyhooks and Hey, Hey It's Saturday) who was a criminal. Terry had also gotten mixed up with a mob or something and recorded a secret tape with some very incriminating evidence. A guy named Durham was afraid they were going to get shot over it. She moved on though working for Max where she ends up meeting Paul and they get married. But then this guy starts hounding her for the tape and she goes off the deep end and shoots him. Daphne walks onto the scene and gets blood on her dress which incriminates HER. Paul ends up piecing it altogether shortly after and he's horrified. He's not "evil Paul" by this stage. He's just this innocent guy working as a flight attendant.

Terry freaks and threatens him with a gun because he's going to call the cops. Paul ends up getting shot and that's the last he ever sees of her. He thought she'd been pregnant as well but that was a lie too apparently. About a year later, she asks to see him in prison but he doesn't want to go. Terry ends up committing suicide, probably the only time this has ever actually happened on "Neighbours". THAT was Paul's first wife!!!

I could sit here all night. The others you probably know more about anyway? But Terry is a real fascinating one for me, and it'd be great to look at all of that again now. One reason I mentioned all of this hahhaha.

reply

I never knew Red Symons acted! But that does sound really fun for the show. Oh Daphne! I remember her, that was a long time back.

Wow. I must have watched some of that, but I don't remember... oh right, I didn't watch way back when - most of the stuff I remember is Lucy and her half brother, the twins, all that sort of era.

I don't know much about Rebecca other than I almost started watching again to see her because I like Jane Hall, but I remember Christina (and Paul having an affair with Caroline) very well. He wasn't super evil then, just sort of getting on the way to being that way.

I actually ended up on Wikipedia earlier looking up Angus Henderson because the actor who played him is on Blindspot and had the accent and I wondered if he might have been on Neighbours or H&A. Now that was a complicated storyline. Was interesting that they did go there with a student/teacher relationship. Though the cynical side of me says it's because it was male teacher/female student and they wouldn't go there with Angus (Beaumont-Hannay) and Elly, but I'm cynical about that kind of thing. Also I don't think I'd like it if they did go there with Elly and Angus for a few reasons.

reply

Red Symons was in the very first "dramatic episode" on the show, when Gordon robs the bank (Julie's working at the bank then and she's the one involved in the stick up.) This is before we meet Terry and no one knows the connection. Gordon and his partner speed away and Danny and Shane Ramsay end up getting into an accident with them. This ruins Shane's diving career because they're worried that he'll end up a paraplegic. And again, all this happened very early on, like episode 10.

Who knew, right? haha

But you can sort of see Paul's "descent", through
1. All the horrible stuff with Terry which would screw with anyone
2. Aunt Rosemary setting him up in business at the Daniels Corporation (Not sure what ended up happening there. When he was pushed off the building, which was the last time we SAW Rosemary, I think there was something going on where he was ousted?)
3. Gets into an argument with Rob Lewis, his father in law, over something illegal Rob had been doing, and Rob ends up dying in a car accident. Gail's devastated, meanwhile she's pregnant with the triplets, and she walks out on Paul because she thinks he cares more about business than family. Paul goes to the ends of the earth finding her and the triplets but she doesn't want to talk to him. Flash forward about fifteen years, and Paul's son hates him and wants to kill him, and ends up a murderer.
4. More stuff in between, but I'm rusty about all that...
5. Paul embezzles and then frames his brother in law Phil. Once they figure it all out, Paul flees to Brazil with Christina and Andrew.

At some point (off camera) he goes back to face the music and winds up in prison for like ten years. By the time we see him again, he's very much "Evil Paul".

I didn't even know who Angus Henderson was when you said that, then I Google'd and I was like, oh yeah. Rachel and Angus. That WAS a great storyline back in the day!

reply

That's a lot of drama, even for a soap.

That makes sense, really, poor guy. So theoretically the triplets could turn up too? Or was the killer one of them?

I was just sucked into the story outline about Angus and Rachel, it sounds like it was a good one. I like the actor, too. But why do Australian actors in the US always sound so broad? Though I actually like Ashleigh's on B&B as Ivy, so maybe it's only some.

reply

I was too. Years ago on YouTube, they had all their scenes posted and I just sat there one night and ended up watching the whole time. Pity they got taken down but you know what I mean obviously.

We've seen the triplets now. Rob was the killer and he's in jail. Max accidentally killed Cameron. And Elle's off in the US now. They aged them a couple years when they came back. They were born in the late 80s but it was changed to mid 80s later on (which means Paul must have been like 18 or something when he married Terry??? haha)

reply

I'd look at them if they were still up. I know exactly what you mean, I keep getting lost in streaming sites lately.

Oh got you! SORAS of course. But I think it makes more sense than not most of the time.

reply

Where's the other forum?

reply

The H&A board on here.

I thought there was someone before Brad, but I could be getting my wires crossed. Probably am.
